Job description
Join the Environment Agency as an Enforcement Team Leader - Make a Real Impact!

At the Environment Agency, we are passionate about building an inclusive and diverse workforce that truly reflects the communities we serve. Diversity isn't just a goal--it's how we thrive, innovate, and protect our environment for everyone. We welcome applicants from all backgrounds and experiences to join us in making a difference.

About the Role

Are you a motivated and visionary leader eager to drive positive change? As an Enforcement Team Leader, you'll lead a dynamic team focused on tackling the most serious environmental offences across Hertfordshire and North London. Your team will carry out disruption operations, investigate suspected offences, and enforce regulations on high-risk environmental crimes with a clear focus on risk and safety.

What You'll Do

Provide inspiring leadership to empower your team to act decisively and professionally. Champion health, safety, and wellbeing as fundamental parts of all activities. Ensure your team has the right training, resources, and support to succeed. Motivate and develop individuals through effective performance management and ongoing coaching. Drive proactive operations that prevent illegal environmental activities and collaborate closely with national teams and external partners to share vital information. Contribute to the Regulated Industry Leadership Team, shaping strategy and leading the wider department.

Responding to incidents is a central part of what we do. You will be required to have an incident role and make yourself available to respond to incidents, or provide business continuity support during an incident.

Why Join Us?

At the Environment Agency, your work protects the environment and communities now and for future generations. We foster a supportive, inclusive culture where your voice matters, your growth is encouraged, and your contributions have real impact.
The team
Join a committed Enforcement Team tackling serious and organised waste crime through regulatory legislation and innovative disruption techniques. We deliver effective, efficient enforcement actions across the Area, providing strong governance and support. Our team collaborates closely with enforcement and intelligence colleagues throughout the organisation to ensure coordinated, impactful responses to environmental crime. Together, we protect communities and uphold environmental standards with determination and expertise.
Experience/skills required
Demonstrated leadership skills with a proven track record of delivering successful outcomes through others. Ability to prioritise tasks, work accurately, and collaborate effectively to ensure objectives are met. Strong communication and influencing skills, with the ability to tailor your approach to different audiences, engaging and motivating stakeholders effectively. Experience working inclusively with people from diverse backgrounds and cultures, actively encouraging awareness of diversity and inclusion. Ability to build and maintain strong, effective working relationships with a wide range of internal and external customers, often working remotely or across teams. Skilled at managing multiple priorities and competing demands, solving problems, and adhering to governance and procedures, especially within the context of criminal investigations.

Note: While experience in enforcement, regulation, or criminal proceedings is desirable, your leadership ability and capacity to lead teams to deliver timely, high-quality results within organisational standards is most important
Contact and additional information
We welcome applications for flexible working patterns. This role offers an element of hybrid working (once fully trained) with an expectation that you will attend the Alchemy office on average for 3 days per week. Some travel may be required to other offices and locations therefore a full UK driving licence is required.
