Job Description

Van Walt is seeking a highly motivated and versatile individual to join our technical department. This hands-on role offers a unique blend of responsibilities with approximately 70% office work and 30% field base work. Must be flexible with a proactive attitude, and a willingness to roll up your sleeves are essential.

Key Responsibilities:



Configure, assemble, and test telemetry systems and related hardware in the workshop. Accurately follow technical documentation, drawings, and work instructions. Maintain technical documentation such as user manuals and service logs. Undertake compliance testing, product validation, and quality assurance procedures. Perform installation, servicing, and maintenance of equipment and systems on customer sites. Provide technical support to customers, including troubleshooting, diagnostics, and resolving product issues. Deliver hands-on technical demonstrations and training sessions for both internal staff and clients. Assist with the preparation and maintenance of rental equipment to ensure readiness and quality standards are consistently met. Ensure safe and effective use of hand tools, power tools, and workshop equipment during all tasks. Collaborate with the wider technical team to support research, development, and continuous improvement activities. Help out with general warehouse operations when required such as stock takes and packing. Flexibility to travel for work and carry out varied site work when required

Required Qualifications & Skills:



Proven mechanical aptitude with hands-on experience Confidence working in both field and office environments Strong problem-solving skills with a methodical and practical approach to tasks. Good IT literacy Soldering skills Attention to detail and methodical record keeping Proficiency in the safe and effective use of a wide range of hand and power tools. Excellent problem-solving skills, with a methodical and analytical approach. Strong communication skills and the ability to explain complex concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences. Highly organised with the ability to manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment. Demonstrates a proactive approach to tasks and problem-solving, with the ability to anticipate needs and take initiative without prompting. Awareness of health & safety standards and risk assessment procedures. Full UK driving licence (essential for fieldwork and site visits).

Desirable skills:



Knowledge of SDI-12 / Modbus systems Basic understanding of electronics and wiring Competence in interpreting technical drawings or schematics. Mechanical or engineering qualification (NVQ, HNC, or degree level) or equivalent practical experience.
