It's all for better public services. Better processes. And a better quality of life, for everyone. Join us, and Swindon will be better with you.
We deliver Environmental Health alongside our Public Health partners which enables greater opportunities and outcomes and are looking to recruit an Environmental Health Officer within our Environmental Protection team.
At Swindon we pride ourselves on developing staff to their highest potential and as an Environmental Health Officer within the team, you will be part of this same investment.

You will engage and educate wherever practicable, whilst working closely with colleagues in the planning and licencing teams. This role will also require working with local stakeholders in a regulatory and advisory capacity. You will be expected to manage your own caseload and lead on enforcement works where appropriate and proportionate.
As an Environmental Health Officer, you will have opportunities to provide training and leadership to other staff members and will work with technical officers to enable the best outcomes for Swindon residents.
Hybrid working is encouraged, and you will be working flexibly on the district completing visits, at home as well as in the office to enable the best outcomes as part of a holistic and multi-disciplinary team providing advice, enablement, and enforcement as part of a wider public health delivery agenda.

Experience in enforcement work and any post graduate qualifications relevant to the above functions are desirable.
You will possess excellent people skills allied with the proven ability to listen, explain, negotiate and influence. You will have a track record of good performance in a busy environment and demonstrate leadership skills.
The ability to travel throughout the Borough will be required.
You must be fluent in the English language (as a requirement of Part 7 of the Immigration Act - for the effective performance of a customer-facing role).

As an employee, you will receive a diverse and exciting environment in which to work, encouraging creativity and innovation whilst recognising the need to support ongoing personal development and a flexible work life balance.
For Swindon to thrive in the future, we need to lay the foundations now. It's why our regeneration and transformation programmes are already underway. So, you'll be joining us at an exciting time on our journey. We'll look to you to share your knowledge, influence decisions and drive real, positive change.
