Do you want to be part of a team that protects public health, supports local businesses, and makes a real impact every single day?
If you're someone who thrives on making a real difference to public health and safety, this could be the perfect opportunity for you. Whether you're passionate about food safety, public health, or environmental protection, this role offers the chance to use your expertise to protect communities and support businesses. If you're confident in your ability to manage complex investigations, communicate clearly, and enforce legislation with integrity, we'd love to hear from you.
What's the role all about?
As an Environmental Health Practitioner or Senior Food Safety Officer, you'll be at the forefront of safeguarding public health across North East Lincolnshire. You'll carry out inspections, respond to service requests, and enforce legislation covering food hygiene, health and safety, communicable diseases, and port health. From investigating serious incidents to issuing certifications for food exports, your work will be varied, impactful, and essential to the wellbeing of our residents and visitors.
What will your day look like?
Tasks may include inspecting food manufacturing sites, investigating public health concerns such as food poisoning outbreaks, and preparing legal documentation to support enforcement action. The role involves close collaboration with businesses, the public, and other stakeholders to provide expert advice and ensure regulatory compliance. There may also be participation in weekend rotas and agile working across various locations, including the Border Control Post, where official fish inspections and support for food import/export processes are carried out.
Who are we looking for?
We're looking for a qualified and experienced professional--either an Environmental Health Officer or someone with a Higher Certificate in Food Control and substantial regulatory experience. You'll need strong technical knowledge, excellent communication skills, and the ability to manage a varied caseload with accuracy and professionalism. If you're adaptable, confident in enforcement work, and committed to continuous development, you'll fit right in with our values of integrity, openness, and valuing people.
Why join us?
Joining our team means becoming part of a service that plays a vital role in protecting public health and supporting local businesses. You'll have the opportunity to apply your expertise in food safety, public health, and environmental protection in a role that is both challenging and rewarding. With a wide scope of responsibilities--from inspections and investigations to enforcement and advisory work--you'll be making a tangible impact across North East Lincolnshire.
