Job Description

Purpose of the Role



To support the Environmental Operations Manager in delivering excellence across waste management, environmental compliance, and process innovation. This role is designed for a graduate chemist with a strong scientific foundation and a genuine passion for tackling the plastic problem through innovation, systems thinking, and sustainable practice.

The Assistant will gain deep exposure to every operational layer of MYGroup's environmental systems - from laboratory assessments and WM3 classifications to project development, Environmental Permitting, and circular economy innovation. Over time, this individual will develop the skills and mindset to become a future leader within the business.

Core Responsibilities



Technical & Analytical

Support WM3 waste classifications, sampling, and hazardous waste assessments under close supervision. Assist in compiling data for Permit compliance, environmental monitoring, and waste performance reporting. Help manage environmental systems across Hull and Goole, ensuring alignment with ISO 14001 standards. Conduct site inspections, audits, and environmental checks to maintain high regulatory standards. Analyse laboratory results and liaise with third-party testing providers to ensure data accuracy and reliability.

Operational & Project Support



Assist with environmental project delivery such as new treatment infrastructure, drainage upgrades, or sustainable product trials (e.g., MYBoard). Maintain documentation, records, and tracking systems for waste movements, samples, and pre-acceptance data. Support technical assessments for new waste streams and customer enquiries. Contribute to health, safety, and environmental briefings across operational teams.

Research & Development



Contribute to innovative projects focused on plastic circularity, material reuse, and zero-waste system design. Support trials, data analysis, and reporting to drive process efficiency and sustainability outcomes. Monitor emerging environmental legislation, chemical restrictions, and plastic recycling developments.

Leadership Development & Mentorship



Work directly under the Environmental Operations Manager to develop high-level skills in regulatory interpretation and analysis, environmental risk control, and leadership communication. Receive structured training in: WM3 and hazardous waste classification ADR and Dangerous Goods awareness ISO management systems (14001, 9001, 45001) Environmental project management and stakeholder engagement Progressively take ownership of defined site or project responsibilities as competence grows.

Person Specification



Essential Qualifications & Experience

BSc in Chemistry, Environmental Science, or related discipline. Strong laboratory and analytical background. Excellent written and numerical accuracy. Deep personal commitment to environmental protection and sustainability.
Desirable Experience

Knowledge of waste classification, chemical safety, or environmental permitting. Familiarity with WM3, ADR, or ISO systems. Work placement or research experience in environmental chemistry or materials science.
