Job Description

Tony Gee is seeking a lead appointment for the development and delivery of environmental services across all sectors. The role involves providing direct advice to projects, upskilling existing staff, and specifying and working with specialist subconsultants.



Location: For this role we are accepting applications for all our UK offices.

The successful candidate will lead and develop Tony Gee's environmental service offering, currently delivered primarily through our supply chain, including:





Environmental Impact Assessments (EIAs) in so far as:





o Delivery: Managing the delivery and integration of EIA chapters produced by subcons and in-house teams [EIA Coordinator role may be provided by subcon or candidate]


o Compliance: interpret and integrate the EIA requirements into engineering deliverables.


o Interface: provide interface between in-house leads for technical disciplines (including flood, contamination and transport)





Directly or via subconsultants, manage the delivery and integration of:


o environmental consents and planning conditions, supported by technical leads as required


o ecology deliverables (i.e. identify and plan ecology surveys, interpret and report results, advise on integration of constraints into engineering deliverables/construction projects, including licensing processes and mitigation requirements)


o landscape architecture and arboricultural deliverables.

The candidate will work across all sectors with a focus on Power & Energy and Highways Sectors collaborating with the respective Heads of Sectors and their Sector Leadership Teams to identify and prioritise business development and delivery requirements with respect to Environmental Services. For example, identify opportunities for in house delivery of environmental services aligned with Tony Gee core engineering portfolio.





Environmental Services Lead will be a new role for Tony Gee required to strengthen our delivery of environmental services to clients currently delivered through our supply chain and further integrate these services with our engineering offering. It is anticipated that in the nearterm, support to existing and future Tony Gee projects shall occupy a significant proportion of the candidate's productive time. However, the candidate shall also work with the Heads of Sectors, Head of Sustainability and the Business Development team to develop relationships with existing and new clients to securing further appropriate work for themselves and any others they recruit. Similarly, there will be a need to work with the Supply Chain Manager and Sector and Office Leads to develop our strategic supply chain for environmental services.



In addition to sound relevant technical skills, including a detailed knowledge of relevant UK statutory regulations and policies, the candidate must possess good communication and interpersonal skills. The candidate will be required to be client facing with good team leadership skills. The candidate must be willing and capable of developing the knowledge and technical skills of staff. The position offers the potential for progression to more senior Director grades.

ROLE REMIT




The role requires the candidate to act as an Environmental Services Discipline Manager, taking responsibility for the punctual delivery of environmental services for projects to high-quality standards in addition to achieving financial targets; the candidate must therefore possess effective managerial experience, including supply chain management, and suitable technical expertise.

Key tasks include, but are not limited to:




Review of technical deliverables produced in-house or by the supply chain across multiple concurrent projects.


Undertaking the role of Environmental Services Discipline Manager or Environmental Services Discipline Director on multidisciplinary projects that require it


The day-to-day management, direction and training of staff whilst undertaking your project work


Acting as a role model for others in the company


Developing the relationship between the company and new and existing clients, and identifying potential work


Developing the relationship between the company and new and existing subconsultants, and identifying potential partnering opportunities


Coordinating with other engineers/consultants across Tony Gee's offices and delivery teams


Managing and liaising with clients on proposals and project work


Specifying and/or managing specialist environmental-related services required to fulfil Tony Gee's scope and undertakings to our clients


For in-house services, preparing fee budgets, proposals and resource requirements for projects under your control or reviewing proposals from subconsultants to ensure no scope gaps


Identifying and managing risks for the work under your control to agreed acceptable levels.


Support the Head of Sustainability in development and delivery.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE



Leading and developing teams and business subunits


Independently scoping, managing and delivering environmental services commissions for a range of clients including Local Authorities, developers


Experience with the Town and Country Planning (Environmental Impact Assessment) regulations applicable within the UK


Proven ability to interface with planning / engineering disciplines with regards environmental plans and impact assessment


Detailed technical skills pertinent to scoping and managing environmental services undertaken by technical specialists


Experience of producing / coordinating LEMPs, LBMPs, HMMPs and CEMPs


Detailed technical skills pertinent to design and specification of a core EIA chapter discipline (ideally ecology or landscape architecture)


Liaison with direct stakeholders


Liaison with relevant statutory bodies (e.g. Environment Agency, Natural England).


Track record of delivering environmental benefits including biodiversity net gain for clients

DESIRABLE EXPERIENCE/SKILLS



Experience with the planning process and delivery of planning applications


Experience of Design and Build schemes, including supporting schemes through Construction.


Experience working with a range of forms of contract (e.g. NEC, ACE)


Understanding of related civil engineering disciplines preferred, including interalia, structures, earthworks, highways, rail, landscape architecture.


Knowledge of the BIM protocols in BS EN ISO 19650.


Use and development of GIS mapping QUALIFICATIONS


CEnv or equivalent with an appropriate institution (e.g. IEMA/ISEP, ICE, CIEEM, CIWEM)


Approximately 15+ years of experience or demonstrated ability to lead complex environmental initiatives.
