About the role



Working on a large development site with numerous energy infrastructure items, this is a manager level role within the Regional Scotland business. The role will report into the Senior Environmental and Sustainability Manager for the Regional Scotland business and will ultimately have direct line reports to support with the deliver of this key project and further energy projects in the future.


The role also involves providing expert environmental sustainability advice to ensure that the project team have the advice and management documents in place to ensure that the project complies with all legal requirements and also delivers on the key sustainability requirements of the project, including carbon, biodiversity and circular materials.



The role will be based onsite in Netherton, near Peterhead, however regular travel around Scotland will be required for client meetings and other project supports Occasional (approx. max. 4 times per year) nights away will be required. Relocation support will be considered as part of this role.

What you'll be doing



Leading Environmental Sustainability requirements for the energy hub which includes developing resourcing plans and managing a team of advisors, graduates and specialists. Advising senior managers within the business on environmental and sustainability

requirements and ensuring they are embedded from an early design stage.
Developing a trusted and expert relationship with the customer, SSE as well as key

environmental stakeholders including SEPA, NatureScot and Local Authorities.
Developing project environmental management documents for preconstruction and live construction projects, in compliance with the Business Management System. Audit and inspection of live construction projects against compliance with the Business Management System, legal requirements and sustainability conditions of contract. Delivering training and coaching to other environmental sustainability team members and the wider team. (Train the trainer support and materials will be given). Supporting more junior members of staff, particularly graduates and apprentices. Auditing and compiling environmental and sustainability data collated via the inhouse sustainability portal. Contributing to the development and implementation of the regional and group wide sustainability strategy, Building New Futures.


Who we're looking for




Understanding of current environmental legislation and best practice relating to

construction projects - including waste management, pollution prevention, carbon and material management.
Experience of implementation of best practice and consenting process for construction projects. Excellent communication skills. Ability to assist in problem solving for environmental and sustainability challenges and providing opportunities for environmental innovation. Desire to drive continual improvement in the environment and sustainability field of construction. Ability to manage multiple work phases/projects. Relevant degree or training. Experience within the E&S field of construction, including at a management level. Chartered membership of IEMA, CIWEM or equivalent. (Preferred but not essential). Desirable - previous experience of working on energy sector projects.
