Join our Enabling Functions (Rail) team as a Environmental Sustainability Manager Rail Systems and you'll deliver complex work that really matters to our business, and the world around you.

Due to the location of the projects, the role needs to be based South-East/London but the requirement is for regular travel across England and Wales to support wider teams and projects
What you'll be doing






To work with the Operations Director and Head of Sustainability for Rail to:
Ensure projects are compliant with the environmental and sustainability


requirements of the UK Business Management System (BMS) Manage and work with project teams to ensure delivery of ES requirements and provide technical advice, guidance and support on environmental and sustainability


matters

Oversee contractual and regulatory requirements, regularly inspecting depots, sites and contract deliverables to ensure compliance and advise the HSW advisors on ES matters
Support winning business teams with environment and sustainability responses for tenders
Actively contribute to learning, sharing and best practice via BB and clients
Maintain environmental plans and commitments
Report contract performance and best practice case studies
Support delivery of UK and Group Zero Harm and Sustainability action plans
Lead and manage the overall capability, development, deployment and

performance of Environment and Sustainability requirements within Rail Systems

Assess environmental and social risks and opportunities and maintain the required management plans, and other requirements
Translate and ensure compliance against BMS standards, procedures and policies
Support the delivery of the sustainability performance management and reporting for the designated work area, analysing trends to build improvement in line with contract requirements
Ensure sustainability data from projects is uploaded onto the sustainability portal on a monthly basis Carry out investigations on environmental incidents and feedback any lessons learned
Support project teams to ensure they are compliant with all customer contract

requirements, environmental legislation and the environmental processes and


procedures outlined in the BMS

Utilise the findings from reporting data, assessments, external and internal audits to drive performance improvements
Provide on-going expertise, support and coaching to contracts, projects and offices through regular and structured site visits and communications.
Assist in the development of case studies and lessons learnt
Live the Balfour Beatty Values
Maintain and develop wider HSW and ES skills and knowledge
Ensure the Project Manager and other managers are kept appraised of any

legislative, or other impending changes, which could affect the construction


practices


Who we're looking for


The following experience is crucial to the role -

Full Driving Licence to fulfil mobile element of role
Experience of working in a construction environment
Recognised Environmental Institution qualification
Substantial Environmental experience
Some experience in an operational railway environment
Knowledge and experience of Environmental and sustainability legislation
