Job Summary:
FTSE Russell is seeking a hands-on dynamic software development leader to drive a team of software engineers building robust equity index capabilities and indexes. The candidate demonstrates an understanding of the index construction process or a significant market data knowledge, combined with a solid, global, previous experience in leading software development organizations. A strong functional knowledge of financial and capital markets and the ability to drive complex projects to successful completion is a must in an execution driven environment.
As the Equity Index Software Development Engineering Leader, you will manage and mentor developers, oversee engineering initiatives, and ensure solutions meet technical, business and budget requirements. Your ability to act as a partner to the index product managers and contribute to solution designs, project estimations, assign the right people and create a can-do execution culture is an important aspect of the job and the culture we want to create.
You will be responsible for overseeing the software development lifecycle, ensuring the team is delivering high-quality software on time, within budget, and fostering a culture of innovation and continuous improvement.
What You'll Do
As an equity index software development engineering leader, you will act as a thought partner:To the Product organization, demonstrating execution drive, ability to be part of the solution, reaching the right tradeoffs between acceptable scope, cost, implementation timing, but without compromising on the quality of the solutions delivered.
To the Operations organization, ensuring indexes can be operated at scale and enforcing operational excellence.
To the wider engineering organization, ensuring solution designs are fit for purpose, delivered on time and on budget, and when necessary anticipating issues, delays and regroup the right teams and resources to find solutions.
As a hands-on Engineer, you'll build with purpose -- solving real-world problems with measurable impact.Design, build, and scale our current index platforms.
Develop efficient, and secure cloud-native architectures.
Work with RDBMS systems and databases such as Sybase or SQL Server.
Contribute to code reviews, mentor peers, and help shape a world-class engineering culture.
Partner with global teams to define new solutions across cloud, data, and analytics.
Work with upstream and downstream development teams to implement functionality.
Ensure the Engineering organization embed a test culture in the software development process with the design of automated and integrated test cases.
Promote a culture of teamwork, high performance and quality via code reviews, ensuring standards and best practices are followed via agile methodologies.
Communicate with clarity, precision, and influence, presenting complex information in a clear and concise format that is appropriate for the audience
Helps in recruitment/setting up of teams through interviewing and identifying different skill sets required to deliver the project successfully
Tech Stack You'll Work On
Our systems are running on AWS. Most of the business logic of our current index systems is in RDBMS databases such as SQL Server. The right candidate will therefore have a strong knowledge of RDBMS systems and an ability to read and understand business logic expressed in SQL. We however are moving away from SQL to build our logic outside of the database, in services, typically implemented in C#, Java or Python. You should therefore demonstrate experience in coding in procedural or object-oriented languages.
Your versatility in being able to dig into existing code bases, understand them, and extend them to implement the new capabilities we need on our index platform will be a significant factor for us.
The key skills of the team are:Backend: Python, C# .NET, SQL, APIs, microservices, containers
Frontend: Angular, JavaScript, HTML5/CSS
Cloud: AWS (EC2, Lambda, Glue, EKS, SQS, SNS and any other as required)
Databases: SQL Server, Sybase, PostgreSQL
CI/CD: GitHub Actions, Jenkins, Terraform

Solid experience in UI development for business-critical applications in Angular (8 and above), Java Script, HTML/CSS, C#
