Elusion Escape Rooms has in a short time already built a great reputation for high end adventure experiences and is now looking for several part time staff members to join our team to help run our evening and weekend games.
- Candidates need to have experience working with people and be fun, bubbly, enthusiastic and engaging.
- You'll need a positive attitude and approach to everything you do.
- Reliability and time keeping must be 100%.
- Candidates need to feel comfortable talking/presenting rules to groups of up to 20 people.
- Candidates who have played an escape room are preferable but not essential.
Escape Rooms are a leisure activity where groups are 'locked' in a room and have 60 minutes to find clues, solve puzzles and escape the room. Overseeing each group is a dedicated Games Master (GM) who acts as host and greets the teams, watches them play and provides clues as required before providing a debrief and sending the team home happy.
A GM's duties include:
Greeting teams - Explaining the rules of Escape Rooms, providing safety instructions, playing the briefing video and ensuring everyone is prepared.
Running games - Ensuring the games run smoothly, monitoring player progress via cctv and providing clues and story elements as required. Operation of special FX, lighting and audio cues on certain games.
Debriefing teams - Explaining where teams did well, what they may have missed, answering questions and taking the important 'team photo' at the end of the game.
Resetting rooms - After the game, the room must be reset accurately to ensure it is ready for the next group and problems quickly addressed.
Game upkeep - When there are no games booked on your shift you will be expected to help with maintenance and upkeep of the games. Cleaning the game spaces with your team and taking stock of damaged or missing items to be replaced by the manager. Also opportunity to get involved in other elements of the business as detailed below.
Being a GM can be a lot of fun; the time flies by once a game is in, every group is different and it is fun to watch how people interact with the game and each other. Also there is an element of strategy as to how to give the best experience to every group, you need to provide help where needed but give each and every team the satisfaction of solving the puzzles themselves, it is a fun process to learn to master. When a team comes out on a high and has had a great experience because of your hard work the job is very rewarding and player positivity is infectious.
Qualities of an ideal candidate are:
Great with people - This is a customer facing job, where you will be the first and last person a team interacts with. We want everyone to leave happy and excited, and your primary responsibility is to make that happen.
Reliable - Each game should be treated like a theatrical performance; they must start on time, so there is absolutely zero tolerance for staff lateness. Regarding sickness, we recognise sudden illness is unavoidable but part of your responsibility in the role is to ensure that you take every step to provide enough time for your shift to be covered by your manager and not leave it until the last minute.
Superb attention to detail - Rooms must be reset accurately otherwise the entire game could fail. Forget to put a lock on correctly, and a team could skip entire parts of the room. Don't put an important clue back in the right position and players (and other GMs) could be left stuck and frustrated.
Flexibility - While we can guarantee there will be available shifts over the weekend, sometimes corporate weekday bookings come in that will require multiple GMs, so there will be additional availability for those seeking extra hours and shifts.
Quick thinking - Sometimes the unexpected can happen and a quick solution must be found, either to a customer service issue or something very rarely going wrong with the room. The ability to think on your feet and act confidently could come in very handy, 'the show must go on'.
Beneficial skills or experience: Escape Room Games running experience, Front of House, Theatrical experience, tour operator or theme park/leisure activity experience.
