We are seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) Advisor to join our team. The successful candidate will play a vital role in supporting our organisation's sustainability initiatives by analysing data, engaging with diverse stakeholders, and providing strategic advice. You will report to the Director of Corporate Stewardship and will be responsible for developing and implementing initiatives that promote environmental stewardship, compliance with ESG standards and regulations, and alignment with the company's sustainability goals.
Your role requires a proactive approach to managing sustainability projects, stakeholder reporting and engagement, and continuous improvement of ESG performance. Your knowledge and capabilities will contribute to managing Augean's material impacts through the implementation of appropriate reduction targets for ESG reporting commitments and guiding our path to net zero.
You will have a significant voice within Augean, and your advice and experience will be listened to and will influence the senior management team to shape the future development of the company.
Your role is home-based there will be a structured induction process and support provided to you as you develop into the role.
Key Responsibilities
:
Develop and implement sustainability, decarbonisation and ESG strategies aligned with the company's goals and industry best practices.
Develop and implement a social value policy.
Management of ESOS compliance requirements with external auditors and coordinate the delivery and reporting of relevant action commitments.
Coordinate the ESG Committee.
Collaborate with internal teams to integrate sustainability practices into business operations and project planning.
Identify Climate change adaptation and resilience risks and opportunities.
Monitor and report on key sustainability metrics and progress towards targets, ensuring compliance with relevant environmental regulations and standards (internally; and external reporting on ESG reporting platforms, such as GRESB and EcoVadis) and liaising with 3rd party companies to verify data.
Use the company's Sustainability and ESG software management system, to gather accurate company and supply chain data to support business plan, compliance and reporting requirements.
Engage with stakeholders, including customers, regulators, and community groups, to communicate the company's sustainability efforts and performance.
Identify opportunities for innovation and improvement.
Provide sustainability-related training and awareness programs for employees.
Stay current with industry trends, regulations, and best practices related to sustainability and ESG.
Identify future legislative ESG compliance requirements that are likely to impact the business.
Requirements
Experience working in a sustainability or ESG role, preferably within the waste management or environmental services industry;
Detailed knowledge of regulatory developments and sustainability practices in the EU and UK, and relevant EU and UK regulations reporting standards and frameworks.
You will have delivered double materiality assessments and be able to demonstrate practical understanding of ESG reporting standards, frameworks, ratings agencies and voluntary disclosure platforms
You will be required to demonstrate knowledge of the social and environmental impacts, resource efficiency and carbon saving opportunities facing the waste sector. You will also have some knowledge of the challenges and impacts associated with the sustainable management of waste across multiple sites using a variety of management techniques.
It will be fundamental for you to be able to demonstrate effective communication skills and the ability to write concise but technically accurate documents, reports or presentations. You will be a motivated self-starter capable of managing your time effectively, working independently and collaboratively in an organisation with a strong culture, committed to all employees. It will be crucial for you to have the ability to communicate complex sustainability issues effectively to a range of stakeholders.
We expect that you will be qualified to degree level or above with a relevant qualification in Environmental Science, Sustainable Development or a similar subject; and be a professional member of a relevant professional body (e.g. Institute of Corporate Responsibility and Sustainability, Institute of Environmental Management and Assessment).
Due to the nature of this role, a full UK driving licence is essential as well as a flexible willingness to travel to Augean's sites and external meetings. However, you will be in control of your travel requirements subject to the needs of the business.
