Squerryes Estate is seeking an experienced Estate Accountant to take full ownership of finance across a diverse, multi-entity estate business spanning hospitality, wine, property, farming and events. This is a hands-on, senior accounting role reporting directly to the Managing Director, replacing the existing Finance Lead position and playing a central role in the Estate's long-term financial sustainability.
The Role
You will be responsible for all accounting, reporting and financial control across all Squerryes entities, providing accurate, timely information to support commercial decision-making.
Key Responsibilities
Financial Accounting & Compliance
Responsibility for accounting across all Squerryes entities
Preparation of statutory accounts and liaison with external accountants
VAT returns, including partial exemption
General ledger management and reconciliations
Management Accounts & Reporting
Monthly management accounts with variance analysis and commentary
Clear, actionable insight for senior management
Ad-hoc financial analysis and reporting
Budgeting, Forecasting & Cashflow
Lead the annual budgeting process
Support department heads with financial guidance and cost control
Cashflow forecasting and planning
Operational Finance & Controls
Oversight of stock systems, EPOS and till reconciliations
Supplier payments, approvals and banking relationships
Oversight of payroll data (liaison role, not processing)
Property Finance
Financial management of residential and commercial property portfolio
Rental income, service charges and utilities billing
Re-leased billing system management
Systems & Processes
Improve systems, controls and reporting automation
Work with EPOS and external system providers
Champion accuracy, efficiency and compliance
About You
Essential
Fully qualified accountant (ACA / ACCA / CIMA)
Strong technical accounting background in multi-entity environments
Experience across complex operations (property, hospitality, retail, estates or similar)
Proven property finance experience (residential & commercial)
Confident, organised, detail-driven and commercially minded
Desirable
Experience with Xero, BrightPay and other finance systems
EPOS and stock-based environments
Genuine interest in estate, hospitality or agriculture-led businesses
Salary:
45,000+ per annum, dependent on experience (pro-rata if part-time)
Flexible working:
Ad-hoc home working available as and when required
Role is predominantly office-based, with
weekly on-site presence expected
