The Role
This Estates Maintenance Manager role is a key operational position within the airfield team. It sits right at the centre of day-to-day airfield activity -- combining practical grounds and maintenance work with aerodrome operations support and fire cover responsibilities for the entire airfield.

Position Overview
The Estates Maintenance Manager plays a key role in maintaining the safety, cleanliness, and operational readiness of Tatenhill Airfield. The role supports day-to-day airfield operations through grounds maintenance, inspections, fire cover support, and compliance with aerodrome regulatory requirements.
Full training will be provided to meet relevant UK CAA fire and aerodrome categories.
Key Responsibilities
Airfield Operations & Maintenance
Carry out general airfield maintenance, including upkeep of facilities, signage, equipment, and infrastructure.
Perform groundskeeping duties such as grass cutting, vegetation management, and operation of maintenance machinery.
Conduct routine runway, taxiway, and apron inspections, identifying and reporting hazards and foreign object debris (FOD).
Complete fuel quality checks and sampling in line with regulatory standards.
Support operational staff with airfield tasks, including potential A/G radio and tower assistance once trained.
Fire & Emergency Cover
Provide aerodrome fire cover following completion of required training and certification.
Participate in emergency responses as required.
Organise and take part in routine fire practice drills and call-outs.
Ensure fire vehicles, equipment, and PPE are serviceable, maintained, and ready for use.
Assist with emergency planning and preparedness.
Compliance & Administration
Support compliance with applicable UK CAA regulations, guidance (including CAP 168), and relevant RFFS publications.
Assist with coordination, planning, and record keeping of RFFS training.
Liaise with aerodrome management as appropriate to support safe and efficient operations.
Carry out additional duties as required to support the effective running of the airfield.
Essential Requirements
Full UK driving licence.
Willingness to undertake all required training, including fire cover competencies.
Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions.
Good organisational and communication skills.
Reliable, flexible, and able to work as part of a small operational team.
Desirable Requirements
Previous experience in grounds maintenance, general maintenance, or a practical outdoor role.
Ideal candidate would have experience in fire, emergency services, aviation, airfield, or similar operational environments, however this is not essential as full training given to the right candidate.
Knowledge of aerodrome requirements and regulations.
Supervisor or team-lead experience preferred.
Experience operating groundskeeping, heavy plant operation, HGV or agricultural machinery desirable.
Training & Development
Full training will be provided to meet relevant UK CAA fire categories.
Ongoing continuation training and professional development will be supported.
