Job Description

As Estates Manager, you will lead and develop our Estates Team, ensuring the hospice estate is safe, compliant, efficient and fit for purpose across all sites. This is a senior, hands-on leadership role with responsibility for maintenance, compliance, health & safety, projects, budgets and continuous improvement.


You will work closely with clinical and operational colleagues, contractors and senior leaders to ensure our buildings and infrastructure fully support the hospice's strategic and operational priorities.

Key Responsibilities



Leadership & Strategy



Lead, motivate and develop the Estates Team, promoting a culture of collaboration, accountability and continuous improvement Plan and allocate resources across multiple sites to deliver a high-quality Estates service Contribute to organisational leadership, working closely with senior teams and committees as required Prepare and manage Estates budgets, identifying efficiencies and opportunities for reinvestment

Maintenance & Estate Management



Oversee Planned Preventative Maintenance (PPM) and reactive maintenance programmes Maintain accurate asset registers and estates data using CAFM or maintenance systems Ensure buildings, plant and infrastructure are safe, reliable and compliant Lead refurbishment, improvement and minor works projects, managing contractors and performance Oversee hospice fleet vehicles and estates-related emergency response planning

Compliance, Health & Safety



Ensure compliance with all relevant legislation including Health & Safety, Fire Safety, COSHH, Legionella and medical gases Maintain robust risk assessments, audits and statutory inspection records Promote a proactive health & safety culture across Estates and the wider organisation

Projects, Sustainability & Events



Support estate development projects including shop fit-outs and office moves Contribute to sustainability and energy-efficiency initiatives Provide Estates support for key hospice events such as the Festival of Light

Professional Responsibilities

About You



Essential



Significant experience in estates or facilities management within a complex, multi-site environment Strong knowledge of statutory compliance and health & safety legislation Proven experience managing PPM, reactive maintenance and asset management Demonstrable people-management and leadership experience Experience managing contractors, budgets and projects Confident using digital estates or maintenance management systems

Desirable



Experience in a healthcare, hospice, charity or similarly regulated environment Recognised qualification in estates, facilities management or building services Formal Health & Safety qualification (e.g. IOSH, NEBOSH) Experience leading sustainability or energy-efficiency initiatives
