Michael Smith Switchgear Ltd was established in 1985 and is modern, rapidly expanding electrical control and distribution engineering company, serving both industry within the UK and abroad. Michael Smith Switchgear offer a wide range of products from switchboards up to 5000A, panel boards, PDU's and Power Factor Correction Units, site retrofitting and maintenance contracts on existing and new switchgear systems.

Summary



We are seeking a dedicated Estimator to provide accurate, timely, and competitive quotations for LV switchgear and associated electrical distribution equipment. The LV Switchgear Estimator will interpret client specifications, engineering drawings, and tender documents to build detailed costings, drawings and proposals that support the company sales and project delivery teams.

Key Responsibilities



Prepare detailed cost estimates for LV switchboards, panel boards, PFC systems, ATS units, bespoke switchgear and services. Analyse tender documents, specifications, schedules, and SLDs. Produce accurate Bills of Materials (BOMs) and commercial proposals. Ensure compliance with BS EN 61439. Identify technical risks and design considerations. Select appropriate components (ACBs, MCCBs, metering, relays, CTs, busbar systems, etc.). Liaise with suppliers for pricing and technical validation. Collaborate with management, design and projects teams. Apply labour, material, and manufacturing costing models accurately. Prepare tender submissions, 2D GA drawings and technical proposals. Provide clear handovers for secured projects. Updating CRM software and proactively chasing projects. All other duties as required that are considered to be a reasonable employer request.

Skills & Experience Required



Experience in LV switchgear or electrical engineering. Understanding of BS EN 61439 and LV assembly construction (desirable). Ability to read electrical drawings and SLDs. Effective IT skills. Excellent verbal, written communication and attention to detail. Commercial awareness. Experience with Schneider devices (desirable). Experience with 2D CAD preferable but training will be provided. Electrical engineering qualifications beneficial (HNC/HND).
