Key Responsibilities
Prepare
accurate cost estimates
for building, refurbishment, and shop-fitting projects from initial enquiry through to tender submission
Oversee and manage the costing of jobs
, ensuring accuracy, completeness, and commercial viability
Analyse drawings, specifications, schedules, and other tender documents
Generate, measure, and complete Bills of Quantities (BOQs)
Identify labour, material, plant, and subcontract costs, ensuring current market rates are applied
Obtain and assess subcontractor and supplier quotations
Liaise with project managers, site teams, clients, architects, and suppliers to clarify scope and pricing
Assess project risks and value-engineering opportunities
Maintain estimating databases, cost plans, and historical pricing information
Assist with post-tender negotiations and handover to the delivery team
Strong understanding of construction methods, materials, and regulations
Experience producing and working with
Bills of Quantities
Ability to interpret technical drawings and specifications
Excellent numerical, analytical, and organisational skills
Strong attention to detail and accuracy
Proficient in estimating software and Microsoft Excel (or similar tools)
Good communication and stakeholder-management skills
Qualifications (Desirable)
HNC/HND or Degree in Quantity Surveying, Construction Management, or related discipline
Professional membership (e.g., CIOB, RICS) advantageous but not essential
