Sandyford Abattoir is a division of John Scott Meat, a family run business based in Paisley. Specialising in top quality meat, John Scott Meat continues to go from strength to strength with their foundation of trust between the company, its suppliers, and customers never wavering. John Scott Meat delivers meat to quality butchers, wholesalers, and caterers throughout Scotland and the South East of England. Sandyford Abattoir being part of the business on site allows John Scott Meat to have complete control of its product from farm to customer. We are looking for a dependable and conscientious Evening Gate/Stockman to join our team at Sandyford Abattoir on a 9-month fixed term contract. This is a key role ensuring the safe, efficient, and humane handling of livestock arriving on site.

No prior experience is necessary -- full training will be provided at no cost to you. We're seeking someone with the right attitude, strong attention to detail, and the ability to work independently while upholding the highest standards of animal welfare and food safety.

Key Responsibilities



Admit and unload sheep and cattle safely and efficiently in line with welfare and Food Standards Scotland (FSS) regulations.

Complete all relevant paperwork accurately and promptly.

Care for any livestock on site, ensuring animals have access to clean water and feed as required.

Record all visitors to the site and liaise with relevant staff members.

Maintain detailed logs of daily activities, incidents, and observations.

Act as the main point of contact for delivery drivers arriving during evening hours.

Uphold strict biosecurity, hygiene, and welfare standards at all times.

Skills and Qualities



Physically fit and comfortable working in an outdoor and livestock environment.

Calm, patient, and professional when handling animals and managing busy situations.

Strong attention to detail and commitment to accurate record-keeping.

Excellent communication skills.

Reliable, self-motivated, and able to work alone with minimal supervision.

Commitment to putting animal welfare before all else and working within the guidelines of Food Standards Scotland.

Hours:

Monday 13:30 - 23:00, Tuesday to Thursday 15:00 - 23:00, and Friday 15:00 - 21:00
