Job description

RAI UK is a national centre creating an international ecosystem for responsible AI research and innovation. It will enable responsible and trustworthy AI to power benefits for everyday life. This is a \xc2\xa331 million consortium representing the whole of the UK, led by the University of Southampton and including Universities of Nottingham, Glasgow, Swansea, Cambridge, Queen\'s University of Belfast, UCL, and King\'s College London.

The Events Manager will be responsible for developing, managing, and delivering a wide range of engaging activities both in-person and online. These activities will encompass events across the RAI UK consortium, as well as collaborations with external stakeholders including UKRI, Government, industry partners, and the general public.

The successful postholder will have substantial operational experience of running a wide range of events, from small meetings and webinars to large conferences and exhibition.

Based in King\'s College London in the Digital Humanities Department in the Faculty of Arts and Humanities and reporting to the Arts and Humanities and reporting to the Faculty Impact Manager and the RAI UK Head of Transformation, the Events Manager will be an integral part of the wider RAI UK Operations Team who are located within King\'s, in the University of Southampton, and in the University of Nottingham.

This post will be offered on a part-time (50%FTE) fixed term contract until 31 March 2028.

Key responsibilities

  • Work with the Delivery Team and the Operations Team to develop and run a wide range of events within the RAI UK consortium, and public, industry, and government-facing external events.
  • Plan, organise, and oversee all aspects of events, including logistics, budgeting, and coordination.
  • Monitor and control expenditures to ensure adherence to approved budgets.
  • Collaborate with KCL and RAI UK research and finance teams to receive and make recommendations on regular budget reports.
  • Support marketing and promotional efforts, ensuring our stakeholders are engaged.
  • Ensure smooth event operations, including registration, participant management, and post-event follow-ups.
  • Collaborate with external organisations and events, such as industry summits.
  • Conduct post-event evaluations and analysis to measure success and identify areas for improvement.
  • Communicate information clearly and precisely, and via appropriate channels.
  • Work with the Operations Team to think ahead and troubleshoot where necessary.

Skills, knowledge, and experience

Essential criteria

1. Skill level equivalent to achievement of HND, Degree, NVQ4 or basic professional qualification or equivalent knowledge gained through experience.

2. Substantial experience in event management and coordination.

3. Experience in finance administration.

4. Ability to multi-task and prioritise a conflicting workload.

5. Ability to use own initiative and suggest innovative, practical and effective solutions.

6. Ability to develop good relationships and networking skills and to work with other collaboratively with individuals and teams, including external bodies, to achieve outcomes.

7. High level of computer skills and good knowledge of using different software and digital platforms.

Desirable criteria

1. PRINCE2 qualification or equivalent relevant project management experience.

2. Experience of working in or closely with the Higher Education sector
