About the role




As the Event's Officer, you'll plan, promote and deliver a wide range of events - from civic celebrations to business workshops. You'll work closely with local groups, businesses and contractors to ensure events run smoothly, safely and successfully. This is a hand-on role with a strong focus on community engagement, marketing and operational coordination.

Key Responsibilities:



Event Planning and Delivery



Plan, coordinate and delivery public events that support the Council's community, tourism and civic engagement priorities. Liaise with third-party and commercial event organisers to facilitate bookings, licences and operational logistics. Supervise stewards, volunteers, and casual staff during event delivery, providing clear instructions and ensuring public safety. Support the delivery of business-focused events and workshops that promote economic activity and footfall in Newquay.

Marketing and Promotion



Promote Council events and services across digital, print, and physical platforms, ensuring strong branding and messaging. Produce marketing materials including posters, flyers, banners, social media content and e-newsletters. Contribute ideas for campaigns and event formats adapting content for seasonal opportunities and community needs.

Community and Business Engagement



Ensure event programmes are inclusive, diverse, and relevant to the local community. Build positive relationships with local businesses community groups and stakeholders to support engagement and sponsorship. Gather feedback from event attendees and stakeholders to inform future improvements.

Administration



Assist with budgeting, procurement of event infrastructure and tracking of costs in line with financial regulations. Ensure compliance with Council policies, Health & Safety legislation, the Event Purpose Books and public sector standards. Support colleagues with event documentation, booking processes and logistical arrangements.

Event Support



Manage event set-up, layout and contractor access, ensuring safety and smooth running. Act as a point of contact for contractors, performers, and volunteers during events, solving problems in real time. Respond to public enquiries, assist with customer service and contribute to creating a positive event experience.

What We're Looking For



Essential

:

Experience in planning and delivering public events Strong marketing and promotional skills, both digital and print Excellent communication and customer service abilities Organisational skills and ability to manage multiple priorities Proficiency in Microsoft Office and digital tools A Levels or equivalent qualification in Marketing, Events or a related field

Desirable

:

Relevant event qualification First Aid certificate Fire Safety certificate Experience working in a Town or Parish Council setting Knowledge of Martyn's Law and public space safety Local knowledge of Newquay
