Job Description

Hope for Justice is a charity working to bring freedom from human trafficking and modern slavery with an effective and proven multi-disciplinary model. Our wholly owned social enterprise, Slave-Free Alliance, provides services to global companies and public bodies seeking to protect their operations and supply chains against the risks of modern slavery and labour exploitation. We have active programmes in the UK, USA, Ethiopia and Uganda, reaching approximately 200,000 adults and children a year.



Hope for Justice and Slave-Free Alliance have staff and volunteers involved in operational support, fundraising or other initiatives in Australia. Hope for Justice exists to bring freedom from human trafficking and modern slavery by identifying victims, supporting survivors and preventing exploitation.

Reporting to the CEO, the Executive Director of Programmes and Policy is an Executive role with accountability for the overall leadership of our Hope for Justice programme strategy and execution. It will will lead teams across the US, UK, Ethiopia and Uganda (Global North and Global South) ensuring that they are equipped to work towards ending slavery. This is a critical role which requires experience and leadership, comfortable making strategic decisions and working collaboratively with the executive and trustees as well as setting direction and priorities for the programme department. We are looking for a leader who can inspire and engage in the face of a difficult subject matter, someone with a positive outlook and a realistic understanding and view of both opportunities and challenges. The strategic framework for the next 5 years has been designed to build back sustainably with a specific focus on supporting the sector.

Strategy & Development



Strategic development and innovation of Programmes in line with the Hope for Justice's Strategic Plan (Step Change Framework 2025) and Theory of Change 2025.

Providing direction and guidance for new work including partnerships, programme products and funding-directed work, developing the necessary structure for Global programmes management (Global North & Global South) Ensuring the vision, values and aims of Programmes and policy continue to be embedded and clearly communicated internally and externally, driving quality in line with the Theory of Change and ensuring we lead with best practice in our sector

Ensuring that Programmes is positioned to be advancing through technology (new and established), to strengthen innovation through partnerships and collaboration. Oversight & development of the Survivor Inclusion initiative including Survivor Leadership Council and Ethical Storytelling Ensuring the sustainability of programme models beyond our operational lifespan Understanding the intersectionality of issues such as climate, poverty, civil war, and displacement and how these impact our programmes, partners, funding and strategy Building synergy with Slave-Free Alliance to help inform programme responses to issues of forced-labour/child labour

Funding & Finances



Accountability of Programme finances and strategic decision-making in relation to grants and funding, including supporting applications and reporting Development and management of Programme budget Ability to accurately identify funding needs across programmes Building and maintaining high-level relationships with funders and potential funders Working with local country and fundraising SMEs to help develop a funding strategy for sustainable programming.

Profile & Stakeholders



Raising the profile of Hope for Justice and visibility representing on national and international platforms Overseeing the establishment and implementation of Hope for Justice's policy strategies in relation to the anti- Human Trafficking response Participating in sector-specific committees and international centres to build relationships and identify opportunities for collaboration Developing & building links with institutional funding partners/providers Working closely cross-organisationally with colleagues and partners with the relevant expertise to ensure the appropriate support is available for Programmes (e.g. planning, monitoring, fundraising, government advocacy, governance, risk management, safeguarding, L&D)

Policy & Research



Oversight of the Policy & Research function and work types to support; Working to help establish a framework for International and local policy and advocacy Ensuring organisational policy is adapted to changes in legislation and government approach. Supporting reform and policy-purposed research at governmental/inter-governmental, multi-lateral, and international civil society forums.

Monitoring & Evaluation



Oversight of the MEAL (Monitoring, Evaluation, Accountability & Learning) function and work types supporting; Rebuilding capacity, expertise and approach Consistent and time-driven data collection Understanding of data and impact for donors and programme research Using data to drive quality and purpose

Global Learning



Oversight of the Global Learning function supporting; The strategic development of training for Prevention and Awareness Product development and initiatives for Philanthropy, Programmes and Slave-Free Alliance Product development and initiatives for Internal Training

Operational Procedures



Ensuring the development of and adherence to organisational policy/governance in relation to Programme activities and Standard Operating Procedures and good due diligence Ensuring that Hope for Justice is a Human Rights-focused, impact-driven organisation where survivors and communities are empowered, and where the systems and structures needed to achieve lasting change are influenced and reshaped through collaborative, inclusive leadership. Serving as a standard bearer of the organisation's aim for professionalism through leadership by example and execution of quality-led programs, seeking to continually learn and improve. Ensuring effective management of Programmatic Risk and Incidents with overall responsibility for the mitigating actions Approaching efficiencies through good monitoring and data

Understand and uphold the standards outlined in the Hope for Justice Safeguarding policies, acting with due care and attention to safeguard the wellbeing of anyone that comes into contact with our work and reporting concerns if they do arise.
