We're looking for a confident and qualified
Executive Head of Childcare Services
to lead and manage three local authority-maintained nurseries in the borough. This role sits within the
Early Help & Prevention
service and offers a rewarding opportunity to shape high-quality early education and integrated community provision.

About the role:
You will lead the day-to-day management of childcare provision across three maintained nurseries, ensuring compliance with Ofsted standards, health and safety, safeguarding, and high-quality practice. You'll oversee operational planning, budgeting, staff development, inspections, and strategic planning -- while nurturing a culture of inclusion, learning, and collaboration.
This is a dynamic leadership role that requires someone ready to guide frontline teams, deliver innovation, and maintain consistently high standards across multiple sites.
Key Responsibilities:
Lead and manage three LA-maintained nurseries, including staffing, safeguarding, and strategic development
Oversee all Ofsted preparations and inspection readiness
Drive quality standards in early education and ensure inclusive, child-centred practice aligned with the EYFS
Act as Designated Safeguarding Lead across sites, embedding robust policies and procedures
Supervise and support staff through performance management, appraisals, and training
Develop and implement centre improvement plans, in consultation with families and professionals
Lead financial planning, childcare fee collection, and budget monitoring
Promote multi-agency working, community engagement, and parental involvement
Ensure full compliance with H&S, equal opportunities, and council standards
What you'll need:
Recognised qualification in
Early Years or Education
Proven experience in
early years leadership
or managing multi-site childcare settings
In-depth understanding of the
EYFS
, safeguarding legislation, and Ofsted requirements
Strong knowledge of the Children's Act, SEND Code of Practice, and multi-agency partnership working
Demonstrated skills in supervision, performance management, and developing team culture
Experience managing childcare budgets and strategic planning
Confident communication, leadership, and decision-making skills
Willingness to work flexibly, including occasional evenings/weekends and across multiple sites
