Data Protection People is seeking a Data Protection Consultant to join our growing data protection consulting team. The team provides data protection consultant and outsourced DPO services to a wide range of clients across multiple sectors, including SME's to multi-national organisations, in the public sector, healthcare and logistics.
The Role
Your role will be to act as a data protection officer for our clients to help undertake their legal obligations as a Data Protection Officer set out in UK data protection law. Your day-to-day activities will likely include:
Advising on recommendations required to meet compliance obligations and best practices
Leading compliance remediation projects following internal/ external audits.
Act as a data protection officer for various clients.
Manage a portfolio of clients, providing tailored data protection services.
Conduct audits and gap analyses to identify compliance risks and areas for improvement.
Develop and implement data protection policies and procedures, including Records of Processing Activities (ROPA).
Provide expert and practical advice on UK GDPR, PECR, and other relevant data protection regulations.
Support clients with Subject Access Requests (SARs) and other data rights-related queries.
The Person
We are seeking someone who has the ability to understand their clients and the law and be able to apply the requirements of UK data protection law to its clients across a variety of sectors.
You're someone who enjoys solving complex problems, translating legal requirements into practical solutions, and helping clients get things right. You're comfortable working independently, managing your workload, and communicating confidently with people at all levels.
Over 4 years' experience in data protection, compliance or information security role is preferred but not essential.
You will require:
Excellent understanding of the UK GDPR, DPA 18 and PECR
Strong understanding of information risk management
Good understanding of information security practices
Ability to write precise, high-quality reports and documentation
Ability to engage with clients, deliver training, and provide clear guidance.
Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities
Excellent ability to be adaptable
Comfortable managing multiple projects and working independently and deadlines.
A proactive, adaptable and collaborative mindset.
Ideally, you will also hold at least one recognised data protection qualification, such as:
BCS / ISEB in Data Protection
PDP Practitioner Certification in Data Protection
IAPP CIPP/E, CIPM and/or CIPT
GDPR Practitioner Certificate
The interview process will include asking shortlisted candidates to complete a short-written assessment and communication skills will be assessed throughout the interview process.
The package
The salary on offer is between 35,000 and 45,000, dependent on experience, qualifications and ability to analyse and apply the law.
All employees receive 25 days of annual leave plus an extra day for every year you work for us (up to a maximum of 30 days), plus bank holidays.

Location
This role is based at our head office in Leeds. We may make exceptions for a hybrid role should the applicant be within a reasonable commuting distance from Leeds. However, we would expect you to be in the office for a minimum of 3 days a week.
