We are seeking a proactive and detail-oriented Finance Assistant to join our Finance Team in North London (N7). The Finance Assistant will be responsible for financial duties across multiple sites within the business and will centre around credit control to ensures timely collection of outstanding debts, minimises financial risk, and maintains healthy cash flow across the Group. This role goes beyond traditional credit control and ledger management. It includes supporting the development of finance policies and procedures, onboarding new customers, monitoring existing accounts, and ensuring compliance with invoicing standards. You will play a key role in safeguarding financial integrity by policing invoices to prevent backdating and collaborating closely with the Operations Manager to maintain low COS.
The ideal candidate will combine strong interpersonal skills with analytical thinking, adaptability, and a commitment to accuracy - a positive, yet assertive attitude is a must! You will be someone who keeps calm under pressure and has good problem solving and decision-making abilities. There will also be an element of assisting with data input and timely record keeping of our purchase ledger.
Customer Service experience is essential as you'll be dealing with customer queries and requests on a daily basis. Data processing is another key aspect to the role as you will be monitoring the status of Sales/Purchase invoices and ensuring customer/supplier accounts are kept up to date and within their specified payment terms. We have our own bespoke system for issuing invoices and full training will be provided so ideally you will possess excellent computer & numeracy skills, have a good eye for detail and have the ability to accurately input data.
You will be part of a small, friendly team reporting directly to the Finance Director, to ensure the smooth operational function of the sales and purchase ledger during the migration to a new system so this is an ideal opportunity for anyone wishing to enhance their career in Finance. Experience is essential although we will offer full support and training to direct you towards our company group ambition.
Key Responsibilities
Oversee the credit control function and customer queries
Maintain accurate sales and purchase ledger records
Collect customer payments promptly and allocate correctly
Prepare weekly debtors reports and ad-hoc financial reports
Develop and maintain finance policies and procedures
Add new customers and monitor existing accounts for accuracy
Ensure invoices are valid and not backdated
Collaborate with the Operations Manager to control COS
Verify purchase orders against supplier invoices.
Provide cover for other accounting functions as requested
Other duties as delegated from time to time by the Finance Director or any other person designated in their absence
This is a Fixed-Term Contract for a period of 6 months. Upon completion of the initial term, the contract will be reviewed for potential transition to a permanent position, subject to the company's operational requirements and the employee's performance during the 6 month contract period.

Proven experience in credit control, ideally in a group or multi-entity environment
Excellent negotiation skills, with strong spoken & written communication
Excellent analytical skills and an investigative mind
Assertive but tactful manner and shows calmness under pressure
Ability to work independently towards deadlines and manage multiple priorities
