We are seeking an

Experienced Head Gardener

to take a leadership role within the business.

Role Overview



The Experienced Head Gardener is responsible for the day-to-day leadership and operational delivery of our garden maintenance work. This is a hands-on position requiring an experienced horticulturalist with strong organisational skills and the ability to lead by example.

The successful candidate will maintain exceptionally high standards across all sites, support and develop team members, and contribute positively to the ongoing growth and reputation of the business.

Key Responsibilities



Horticultural Excellence & Planning



Deliver consistently high horticultural standards across all gardens Plan and oversee seasonal planting, pruning & plant health care Contribute to seasonal and long-term garden development planning

Operational & Logistical Management



Manage daily site logistics including tools, materials, and equipment Ensure machinery and tools are well maintained, safely stored, and fit for purpose Coordinate deliveries, waste removal, and general site organisation Maintain safe, tidy working environments in line with health and safety regulations

Team Leadership & Development



Lead, motivate, and support a team of gardeners Allocate work effectively, providing clear instruction and guidance Monitor quality of work and ensure standards are met consistently Train new team members and support ongoing professional development Lead by example with professionalism, reliability, and strong work ethic

Planning & Strategic Support



Work closely with management to support operational planning and future growth Show initiative in identifying efficiencies, improvements, and opportunities Take ownership of projects and ensure they are completed to a high standard

Marketing & Professional Representation



Support marketing activity through horticultural input and ideas Represent the company professionally with clients and suppliers Contribute positively to the promotion and reputation of the business

Skills & Experience



Extensive experience in professional garden maintenance Proven leadership or senior-level experience within a gardening team Strong plant knowledge and horticultural expertise Excellent organisational, communication, and time-management skills Competence with a wide range of tools and machinery Sound understanding of health and safety requirements Full UK driving licence
