31,049 - 37,796 per annum

We are looking for an Experienced Obstetric Scrub Practitioner for a fixed term contract of 9 months.



You will be working as part of a friendly, welcoming and expert multidisciplinary Theatre Team.



Our focus at all times is on ensuring that our patients receive high quality care in clean and comfortable surroundings.

To have a clear understanding of how this post contributes to the achievement of the Trust's vision and EXCEL values and behave in a way that reflects these.

Assist in the provision of assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating the care of patients in the perioperative environment.

Being sensitive to our patients and staff needs for courtesy, dignity and privacy and always ensuring a friendly environment.

As skills develop, manage the Theatre area in the absence of the Team Leaders, maintain safe staffing levels, ensuring that polices are always adhered to and the Senior Theatre team remain updated.

Assist the Professional Development Team in the management of preceptorship of newly qualified staff, return to practice staff and the mentorship of Nursing /ODP students and theatre support workers.

Show a willingness to learn new skills for own Professional Development.

1.0 Clinical



1.1 Maintaining a safe and clean environment within the clinical area in accordance with the Trusts policies and guidelines.



1.2 Deliver a high standard of perioperative care based upon a sound evidence base.



1.3 Provide skilled clinical assistance to the surgical, anaesthetic and recovery teams.



1.4 Maintaining timely and accurate patient care documentation, ensuring that confidentiality is respected.



1.5 Creates and utilises opportunities to promote health and wellbeing of patients in our care.



1.6 Communicating with and assisting the multidisciplinary team to always promote excellence in the delivery of patient care.



1.7 Leads a perioperative team to manage a group of patients throughout a shift.



1.8 Working within the NMC/HCPC Guidelines and Trust Policies recognising one's own abilities and limitations.



1.9 To ensure 24-hour cover, working rotational shifts to include earlies, lates, nights, weekends, and Bank Holidays.



2.0 Managerial



2.1 Ensure that adequate resources are available to meet the needs of the patients and contribute to cost improvement programmes.



2.2 Contribute to the maintenance of appropriate stock levels and have an awareness of materials management.



2.3 Ensure that all equipment for patient use is kept in good working order in line with current Regulations.



2.4 Ensure that adequate skill mix is available to meet the needs of the patients. If deficits are unavoidable, contact the appropriate Senior Staff for support.



2.5 Ensure that concerns and complaints from patients, visitors or colleagues are resolved where possible and reported to the Team Leader / Senior Team Leader 'Our vision is to EXCEL at patient care'



2.6 Deputise for the Team Leader, as and when necessary.



3.0 Educational and Training



3.1 Have a positive attitude to continuing professional development to enhance knowledge, skills and attitudes needed for safe and effective preoperative practice.



3.2 Participate in Trust Appraisal System



3.3 Possess a clear understanding of Clinical Governance in relation to standards of care, support of colleagues and audit of given care.



3.4 Participate in the utilisation, evaluation and conduct of audit and research.



3.5 Contribute to and evaluate the implantation of new ideas and innovations within the Theatre areas.



3.6 Promote a professional image by acting as a role model to others, provide and participate in clinical supervision. Act as a source of advice and support for other colleagues.



3.7 Contribute to preceptoring, mentoring and assessing of colleagues and students in placement.



4.0 Professional



4.1 Ensures that the Team Leader/Senior Team Leader is informed of any Professional concerns at the earliest opportunity.



4.2 Ensure that Revalidation requirements for NMC/HCPC Registration are adhered.



4.3 Ensures current registration with NMC/HCPC



4.4 To act as an ambassador for the clinical environment promoting a professional image of a Theatre Practitioner role.



5.0 Human Resources



5.1 Assist senior colleagues with duty rostering



5.2 Having an awareness of skill mix and its appropriateness in maintaining service



Relationships



Internal:



All theatre staff All HSDU staff Patients and their relatives and carers Surgeons and Anaesthetist staff Ward and other departmental staff

External:



Representatives from appropriate firms and companies.

Special Requirements



Provide on-call/stand-by cover as necessitated by departmental needs During night duty, may be required to call in a second team. Pre-check the operating lists (all specialties competent in), to ensure that any 'special' prosthesis required have been ordered. Be able to cannulate and administer intravenous drugs. * Be able to catheterise patients.
