Job Description

We are seeking a dedicated and skilled Service Engineer to join our team at Middleton Engineering Ltd. This hands-on role plays a crucial part in delivering high-quality service and support to our customers both on-site and at our manufacturing facility.

You will be responsible for installing, servicing, maintaining, and commissioning a wide range of machinery, with the opportunity to work on technically challenging and rewarding projects.

This role requires a proactive, flexible, and professional individual, capable of working independently or as part of a team in a fast-paced engineering environment. You'll be travelling regularly, with frequent overnight stays and occasional international assignments, supporting our growing global customer base.

Key Responsibilities



Install, commission, maintain, and service machinery at customer sites across the UK and overseas. Assemble, test-run, and commission equipment prior to despatch at our Somerset-based factory. Diagnose mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic faults and implement effective solutions. Participate in the company's call-out rota, including occasional weekends and bank holidays. Complete all service documentation accurately, including job cards, timesheets, reports, requisitions, and cutting lists. Liaise with the Stores department to ensure equipment and materials are logged and maintained appropriately. Support internal production and engineering teams as required. Maintain a high standard of housekeeping, adhering to all health and safety procedures and protocols. Identify and report defects in equipment, tools, or consumables to enable prompt resolution.

Essential Skills & Attributes



Strong mechanical knowledge with practical experience in hydraulic and electrical systems. Experience in welding and fabricating is highly desirable. Experience in Quarry, Recycling equipment or heavy machinery highly desirable. Proficient in reading and interpreting mechanical and hydraulic drawings. Competent in using IT systems and Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.). Comfortable working independently off-site and responding to last-minute travel requirements. Capable of working under pressure and using own initiative to solve complex technical issues. Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills; able to represent the company in a professional and courteous manner. Flexible and adaptable, with a proactive approach to changing demands. Full, clean UK driving licence is essential.
