Role Purpose / Summary:
We are looking for a skilled and dependable Fabricator/Welder to join our workshop team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for fabricating, assembling, and welding steel components and structural elements to high standards, working from technical drawings, while ensuring that quality, safety, and productivity targets are achieved.
Key Responsibilities:
- Read, interpret, and work from engineering and fabrication drawings/technical specifications.
- Fabricate components from mild steel, structural steel, and other metals, including cutting, bending, and shaping as necessary.
- Perform welding operations (e.g., MIG, TIG, MMA) to produce high-quality welds in line with company and industry standards (e.g., BS EN, ISO).
- Assemble fabricated parts into finished products or sub-assemblies.
- Conduct quality checks on welded and fabricated components (visual inspection, measurement, testing) and report any defects or non-conformities.
- Safely operate workshop machinery and equipment (e.g., guillotines, press brakes, band saws, grinders, cranes).
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe workspace, adhering to health and safety policies and procedures.
- Assist in the maintenance of welding equipment, tools, and consumables.
- Collaborate with supervisors, engineers, and other fabricators to meet production schedules.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives by contributing ideas for efficiency, waste reduction, and best practices.
- Occasionally assist with installation, site work, or client-facing tasks as needed.
Qualifications & Experience:
Essential:
- Proven experience in fabrication and welding (ideally 2-3 years).
- Proficiency in MIG welding; experience with TIG or MMA is a plus.
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings/engineering blueprints.
- Experience working with structural steel and other fabrication materials.
- Strong knowledge of welding quality standards and techniques.
- Attention to detail and a commitment to producing high-quality work.
- Good communication skills and the ability to work effectively in a team.
- Commitment to following health and safety protocols.
Desirable:
- NVQ Level 2/3, City & Guilds, or equivalent qualification in Fabrication & Welding.
- Experience with welding procedure specifications (WPS) or relevant certifications.
- Familiarity with BS EN 1090 or other structural certification standards.
- Forklift license or experience with overhead cranes.
- Previous experience in a small or medium fabrication shop.
