Job Purpose
As a Fabricator/Welder, you will be responsible for fabricating, welding, and assembling metal components to produce chains and related products to exact specifications. You will work with a variety of materials and welding techniques to ensure the highest standards of quality and safety are maintained in line with UK regulations and industry standards.
Key Responsibilities
Fabrication and Welding:
Interpret technical drawings, blueprints, and specifications to fabricate and weld metal components.
Perform MIG, TIG, and/or stick welding on materials such as mild steel, stainless steel, and alloys.
Cut, shape, and assemble metal parts using tools such as plasma cutters and grinders.
Quality Control:
Inspect welds and fabricated components to ensure they meet quality standards and tolerances.
Maintenance and Safety:
Maintain welding and fabrication equipment, ensuring tools are in good working condition.
Adhere to UK health and safety regulations, including COSHH, PUWER, and PPE requirements.
Contribute to a safe working environment by following risk assessments and safe systems of work.Team Collaboration:
Work closely with colleagues, including engineers and quality inspectors, to meet production deadlines.
Assist in training apprentices or less experienced team members when required.
Documentation:
Complete production records and report any issues or deviations to the Production Manager.
Ensure compliance with ISO standards and company policies.
Person Specification
Essential Qualifications and Experience:
Recognised qualification in welding/fabrication (e.g., NVQ Level 2/3 in Fabrication and Welding, City & Guilds, or equivalent).
Minimum of 2-3 years experience in fabrication and welding within a manufacturing or industrial environment.
Proficiency in MIG welding; experience with TIG welding is desirable.
Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and welding symbols.
Familiarity with UK health and safety regulations and best practices in a factory setting.
Desirable Skills and Experience:
Experience in chain manufacturing fabrication.
Coding certification (e.g., BS EN 287, ASME IX, or equivalent)
Knowledge of plasma cutting and overhead crane.
Forklift license or other relevant certifications.
Personal Attributes:
Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing high-quality work.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Good problem-solving skills and a proactive approach to challenges.
