Job Description

As the Facilities and HSE Manager at Wayland Additive, based in Huddersfield, UK, your role is to ensure that all Wayland Additive facilities are up to an appropriate working standard such that all Wayland Additive staff have everything they need from the facility and its surroundings to be able to carry out their roles safely & effectively. The role has responsibility for multiple sites, including Wayland Additive's Peterborough facility, and will require regular oversight and engagement across both locations. You will be responsible for ensuring Wayland Additive is compliant with all local regulations and legislation around facilities and for creating an environment that is safe for all colleagues.

The role itself will require a high level of attention to detail, good organisational ability and good stakeholder management skills. The following core functionalities will make up the role:

Key Health & Safety Responsibilities



Policy Development:

Create, implement, and maintain health and safety policies and procedures to ensure compliance with legal requirements and best practices.

Risk Assessment:

Conduct regular risk assessments and audits to identify potential hazards and implement measures to mitigate risks.

Training and Awareness:

Provide training and guidance to employees on health and safety practices, ensuring they understand their responsibilities and the importance of compliance.

Incident Investigation:

Investigate accidents and incidents to determine root causes and recommend corrective actions to prevent recurrence.

Reporting and Documentation:

Maintain accurate records of health and safety activities, incidents, and compliance audits, and report findings to senior management.

Collaboration:

Work closely with other departments to promote a culture of health and safety within the organization and ensure that safety measures are integrated into all operations.

H&S Policies:

Develop and implement comprehensive H&S policies aligned with ISO 45001 and UK HSE regulations for metal powder manufacturing and electron beam based additive manufacturing operations.

Safety Culture Leadership

: Drive continuous improvement in safety culture through visible leadership and employee engagement.

Key Facilities Responsibilities



Maintenance and Repair:

Ensure that the facility, including its infrastructure and assets, is maintained in optimal condition. This includes scheduling regular maintenance, overseeing repairs, and conducting inspections.

Vendor Management:

Coordinate with external service providers for facilities services like cleaning, maintenance, and security.

Budget Management:

Create and monitor budgets related to maintenance and facility operations, ensuring cost-effectiveness.

Space Management:

Efficiently organize and allocate space within the facility to enhance workplace efficiency.

Contract Negotiation:

Oversee and agree on contracts with service providers for various facility services.

Project management

of occasional Facilities / Health & Safety projects

Waste disposal.

Manage the disposal of all company waste, including hazardous materials, in accordance with local rules and regulations and environmental standards

Team management.

Manage all facilities personnel within the company. Currently this includes 2 part-time Facilities Co-Ordinators job-sharing in Peterborough.

Be proactive in seeking out training and development, particularly in facilities and H&S disciplines

Skills / Experience



Health & Safety qualification eg IOSH Level 6 Diploma in OSH Leadership and Management or National Examining Board for Occupational Safety and Health (NEBOSH) Diploma

Ensure compliance with HSE regulations, including COSHH, REACH, and DSEAR.

Support safe handling, use, and storage of hazardous substances through risk assessments, controls, and training.

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively in a team environment, demonstrating leadership skills where required.

Proven experience in a high-quality manufacturing/industrial environment, including a thorough knowledge of potentially hazardous materials or practices

Ability to read and understand engineering drawings including civil engineering plans

Previous experience working with MRP/ERP systems is advantageous but not essential

Strong technical aptitude with the ability to understand and communicate complex engineering problems to appropriate stakeholders

Problem-solving mindset with the ability to adapt to evolving technical challenges

Job Types: Full-time, Permanent

Pay: 45,000.00-50,000.00 per year
