Job Description

Based at The Royal Shrewsbury Hospital, Brite Start are looking to recruit 4x facility assistants to provide and excellent service to the NHS. Hours currently being reviewed but are between 20 - 37.5. The rota is based on a 2 week schedule to include 1 week out of 2. Full training and inductions will be completed.

The ideal candidate will be able to work independently and present a positive, polite and friendly outlook to all patients and visitors to the unit/ward. They will be able to communicate effectively with patients and colleagues on everyday care matters along with delivering a caring, personalised service to patients and make a positive difference to their care experience. They will treat information confidentially and must be able to work within a team.

Collate meal orders daily from patients ensuring appropriate meal choices available

Refresh patient water at least three times a day to include change/wash jug and cup/beaker

Prepare patient environments for meals. To offer a hand wipe and for patients to have clean hands before meal or snack. Ensure that all utensils, plates, cutlery and cups are within easy reach of the patient.

Deliver meals and drinks, ensuring the patient is offered a choice and alternative food/supplement as required.

Alert the nursing staff when there are changes noticed in the patient's ability to eat/drink.

Store, select and heat foods according to local policy and instruction.

Wash any items used in the provision of the service and ensure the kitchen environment is hygienically clean as guided by local policy and regulations.

Prepare and use equipment and work areas correctly and in accordance with established procedures.

Monitor food waste in accordance with policy.

Follow Trust policy, for example Moving and Handling, safe handling and storage of food, disposal of waste

Ensure that all necessary data is obtained, recorded and stored i.e., food/fridge temperatures, daily, weekly and monthly cleaning records.

To support effective cleaning by ensuring the ward environment is free from unnecessary items or equipment.

Work to NHS and Trust policies and standards of cleanliness and the required work frequencies as per schedules provided.

To support, as required, enhanced cleaning provision including increased frequency of rooms and bays as required by Infection Prevention & Control Standards.

To respond to any actions that may arise from cleaning, infection control, or other relevant audits and outbreaks.

To ensure the correct use of chemicals for the type of surface and finish, making certain the handling, storage and safe usage are in line with the COSHH regulations, data sheets and training given.

To adhere to all aspects of Infection Control in all areas of work, including the use of colour coded equipment to ensure there is no spread of infection.

Top up stock as required within ward including linen

Responsible for maintaining clear and accurate records providing documentary evidence that cleaning has taken place.

Co-operate fully when new methods of work or frequencies of cleaning are introduced.

Report any defects that will prevent you from carrying out your duties via the Trust Estates reporting mechanism.

Contributes to the implementation of service improvement projects to enhance service and improve patient experience.

Present a professional, polite and positive attitude as required by all staff in patient care

Pay: 12.56 per hour
