We are seeking a dedicated Facilities Officer to oversee the safety, security, and operational integrity of our premises. The ideal candidate will possess strong technical knowledge, leadership skills, and a customer-focused approach. This role involves monitoring facilities, supervising maintenance activities, and ensuring compliance with safety standards to support smooth and secure operations across our site.
General Duties
To keep facilities safe, functional, and clean by performing or contracting out diverse tasks like repairing plumbing, electrical issues, carpentry, painting, grounds upkeep, and preventative maintenance, responding to repair requests, conducting inspections, and maintaining equipment, often using hand/power tools to ensure buildings meet standards and tenant needs.
To take responsibility for the maintenance and general upkeep of Eastleigh Town Centre buildings and fabrics internally and externally.
To do be responsible for the day-to-day delivery of:
Repairs & Maintenance:
Fixing leaks, patching walls, replacing light bulbs, repairing doors/locks, tiling, and minor electrical/plumbing work.
Preventative Tasks:
Performing routine checks on HVAC, fire alarms, security systems, and equipment.
Grounds & Facilities:
Mowing lawns, clearing debris, setting up furniture, and general cleaning/sanitizing.
Inspections & Reporting:
Inspecting buildings and grounds, diagnosing issues, logging work, and reporting to managers.
Safety & Compliance:
Following safety protocols, identifying hazards, and adhering to building codes.
Tool & Inventory:
Using hand/power tools, maintaining equipment, and managing supply stock.
1. To carry out duties in a safe manner and in accordance with Eastleigh Town Council's methods of work be part of a team within a schedule of works as laid down. Sites manage any third parties who are attending Eastleigh Town Council Buildings and assets. Show a positive approach to your duties.
2. To maintain good relationships with the public and other workers.
3. To preserve an appropriate and dignified attitude at all times.
4. To undertake works inside and outside Council buildings and supporting council services.
5. To carry out daily checks on machinery, plant and vehicles to ensure that everything is in working order before operating them and reporting any fault or defect to the Asset Officer or Assets Admin team.
6. Occasionally assist in undertake grass cutting, litter picking, path clearing, hedge cutting, bin emptying, cleaning, inspections or any other required maintenance work in accordance with Eastleigh Town Council's specifications and methods of work, in and around the streets of Eastleigh and support the cemetery teams at other locations as required.
7. To assist with the maintenance of any other Council controlled land or property and support the Allotment and community officers as requested.
8. To clean and maintain all plant, tools and equipment for the purpose of the job, ensuring good housekeeping and security of all such stocks.
9. To carry out miscellaneous improvements works including but not limited to fencing, painting, maintenance and installation of benches.
10. To undertake training and gain certification as required by the job from time to time.
11. Drive Council vehicles including vans with trailers and ride-on mowers etc
12. To participate in a Performance, Review and Development meeting and undertake a plan of training where necessary.
13. To undertake any other duties as considered appropriate to the post, which may be assigned by the Officers, Town Clerk or Deputy Town Clerk.
14. The requirements of this post may require longer hours in the summer and the post holder may be required to work evenings/weekends and/or bank holidays sometimes at short notice.
Skills and Abilities
1. Previous experience of working in this role or roles which require the same overarching skills
2. Full driving license B & E Preferred
3. Experience of working in a physical role with awareness of Health and Safety at Work regulations and how these apply to you and others you are working with
4. Experience of using mechanical / powered equipment
5. Willingness to undertake training to gain new complimentary skills as identified for the role
6. Effective communicator, able to use asset management apps or software to log and record work requirements and completion
7. Good general knowledge of building requirements for community use
