Job Description

We have a new post as a Falls Specialist Technician within the Falls Prevention Brighton and Hove team. We are offering a part time role. The main duties will include:



a) To assist the clinical team to treat a caseload of older people who have fallen or may be at risk of falls and osteoporosis.

b) The Falls Specialist Technician will provide a mixture of general and specific care to a group of patients and will be proficient and competent to work at a higher competency level than a Falls Specialist Assistant. They will work alongside a registered nurse and allied health professionals.

c) The post holder will be expected to have Foundation degree in Health and Social care. They will also become proficient and competent in their area of practice by undertaking Postural Stability Instructor/Otago qualifications.



d) Triage referrals to the Osteoporosis and Falls Prevention Service using

departmental protocols with support from a senior clinician.

Key Responsibilities:



a) The Falls Specialist Technician will function at a competency level in line with a Band 4 competency framework.

b) Evidence of training and successful completion of competencies will be

required before the post holder can undertake the role fully.

c) The post holder will provide general and specific care as specified with "main tasks" section below.

d) The post holder will be supported and supervised by a registered

nurse/therapist and will participate in MDT working.

e) To work alone, with access to a supervisor, in the community within the

guidelines of the lone worker policy maintaining high regard of own and others personal safety.

f) To undertake Enhanced Assessor training, in order to assess and provide basic items of equipment and to teach and demonstrate the use of such equipment or other techniques to optimise the client's functional ability, independence and safety.

g) To provide administrative support to the team i.e. photocopying, register of referrals, booking of appointments and transport if required, monitoring of attendances and DNA's, transfer of referrals and related patient liaison, filing and faxing, as requested.

Job Summary



Assist the clinical team in treating a caseload of older people who have fallen or may be at risk of falls and osteoporosis.



Provide both general and specific care to patients, working at a higher competency level than a Falls Specialist Assistant, alongside a registered nurse and allied health professionals.



Hold a Foundation Degree in Health and Social Care and gain proficiency through qualifications such as Postural Stability Instructor or Otago training.



Triage referrals to the Osteoporosis and Falls Prevention Service using departmental protocols, with support from a senior clinician.



Deliver programmes of care, including group sessions, based on treatment plans developed by clinicians.



Assist in delivering the Osteoporosis & Falls Prevention Service across Brighton and Hove in various settings, including clinics and patients' homes.



Maintain clear, concise, and legible documentation in accordance with guidelines from the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy, Nursing and Midwifery Council, College of Occupational Therapy, and trust policies.



Work independently without direct supervision, with immediate access to a physiotherapist or other clinicians on-site or by phone.



Communicate effectively with patients, relatives, and colleagues at all times in a manner appropriate to the role of a Falls Specialist Technician.



Use communication that considers the well-being and individual needs of each patient.



Always act with respect for patients' privacy, dignity, and confidentiality.



Promptly observe and report any changes in a patient's condition to a registered nurse, doctor, or therapist.



Encourage patients and carers to take an active role in regaining and maintaining personal independence--requiring strong interpersonal skills, motivation, empathy, and tact.
