Key Responsibilities in Family Law

Managing a varied caseload of private family law matters, including divorce, separation, financial settlements, cohabitation disputes, and private children proceedings. Advising clients on their legal rights and options in respect of all aspects of family breakdown, including child arrangements, parental responsibility, and protection from domestic abuse. Drafting, reviewing, and negotiating court documents, financial remedy applications, child arrangement orders, and pre-nuptial and post-nuptial agreements. Representing clients at court hearings, mediations, and settlement meetings, ensuring their interests are robustly represented at every stage. Liaising sensitively and effectively with clients, witnesses, counsel, the courts, and opposing representatives, maintaining high standards of client care. Ensuring strict adherence to all regulatory, ethical, and procedural requirements within family law practice. Engaging in continuous professional development and training to maintain a thorough and up-to-date understanding of family law practice and procedure. Contributing positively to a collaborative, client-focused team environment and supporting colleagues as required.

Essential Skills and Experience for Family Solicitor (NQ)



Qualified solicitor (England and Wales) with a demonstrable interest or seat in family law, ideally gained as part of a training contract or recent post-qualification experience. Up-to-date knowledge of family legislation and current best practices in resolving family disputes, financial matters, and matters involving children. Strong client relationship and communication skills, demonstrating professionalism, sensitivity, and clarity in all interactions. Ability to manage a busy caseload with excellent organisational skills, attention to detail, and sound judgement. Excellent drafting and negotiation capabilities, supported by a collaborative and pragmatic approach. Effective use of legal case management systems and proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
