SENAID is a grassroots Birmingham-based charity providing specialist support to children and young people with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND), and their families. Our services include emotional casework, educational advocacy, and hands-on support during key stages such as school transitions, exclusions, or EHC assessments.
We're now recruiting a Family Support Lead to help shape and lead our frontline delivery. This is a key role in a growing organisation and offers the right candidate a real opportunity to make a difference.
You will take the lead on supporting families through complex educational and emotional challenges--such as school refusal, exclusions, anxiety, or barriers to accessing SEND provision. You'll deliver direct casework, attend school meetings, guide families through statutory processes (like EHC needs assessments), and ensure support is delivered with empathy, professionalism, and impact.
Crucially, this role also involves overseeing and supporting other volunteers and placement students within the family support team. You'll help manage the support rota, quality-check case updates, offer guidance during complex cases, and ensure all support aligns with our values and tiered model. You will be the go-to person for day-to-day advice and oversight across the wider support team and will work closely with the Operational Lead to feed back emerging trends and practice gaps.
Key Responsibilities:
Lead on assigned family support cases and provide structured, compassionate support to parents/carers.
Support and oversee volunteers and placement students within the family support team, offering case guidance, feedback, and quality assurance.
Attend multi-agency or school meetings to advocate for families where appropriate.
Support with EHC needs assessment requests and statutory SEND processes.
Manage triaged referrals using internal systems and maintain high-quality case records.
Coordinate with the Operational Lead and wider staff to improve consistency and service delivery.
Attend weekly virtual team meetings and contribute to service learning and improvement.
Who We're Looking For:
A confident, empathetic, and well-organised individual with strong advocacy and communication skills.
Experience in education, family support, SEND, social work, or related sectors.
Strong understanding (or willingness to rapidly learn) of SEND processes, inclusive education, and the EHCP system.
