Family Time Supervisor
, Children's Family Time service, Gillingham, Kent
Various hours available:
Starting from 17 hours per week(part time). Permanent contract plus the possibility of overtime

As a Family Time Supervisor you will provide opportunities for looked after children and young people to stay in touch with their parents and in some cases their wider family members or other people who are important to them, when there is a need for this time to be supervised. You will be present throughout the whole Family Time session and complete a written observation of the session, which is then shared with the child or young persons social worker.
As a Family Time Supervisor, you will ensure that families are welcomed and supported when in the Family Time Centre, this could also include community settings and other appropriate venues as required.
You will be working closely with the Service Manager and Medway Children's Services to provide a safe, happy and positive experience for families, children and young people who have been referred to the service.
You will have an open-minded, flexible and caring approach towards children, parents and other family members who are attending Family Time. Our aim is to provide a happy and positive experience for children, young people and their families. You will therefore ensure that children and young people are kept safe and that their emotional wellbeing is prioritised at all times.
You will ensure the welfare of children and young people is at the forefront of the team's work and ensure that Family Action and Medway's safeguarding procedures are followed. You will provide an opportunity to support parents to maintain positive relationships with their children.
Where required, you will oversee practical and emotional support for parents building a trusting relationship with them; this will help to make Family Time sessions a positive experience for the children. Where Family Time is between the wider family group, you will ensure the needs, preferences and experiences of all attendees are considered and supported.
Your skills
You will be educated to level two or above (or working towards) with a recognised professional qualification in social work, health, education, early years, youth work or equivalent, and evidence of a commitment to continuing learning and professional development.
You will have excellent communication skills including the ability to work with families in conflict, build their trust and respect, and recognize the importance of remaining impartial, objective and focused on the needs of the child/children/young person at all times.
You will be able to demonstrate an understanding of safe working practices, risk assessment and risk management.
You will have good planning and excellent report writing and record keeping skills.
You will have experience of and ability to use MS Office applications and electronic recording systems
You will be a team player who is flexible, and enthusiastic about being an integral part of a newly formed and aspirational team which is focused on the Family Action values of Can Do, Excellence, Mutual Respect and People Focus
You will be able to work flexibly as may be required by the needs of the service and carry out any other reasonable duties as required, including working flexibly to meet opening hours of the centres, (maybe inclusive of evenings and weekends).
You will have previous experience of working with Children and Families.
