Family\'s First Assistant

HMP Thameside

Full time, 40 hours

Salary: \xc2\xa322,500 plus \xc2\xa36,200 LW

Here at Serco, we\'re looking for a Children\'s Activity Assistant to join us at HMP Thameside, London, Category B prison. The job holder will be responsible for arranging and facilitating events that maintain and develop the relationship between fathers and their children whilst in custody. The successful post holder will work as part of a team, reporting to the Resettlement Manager. Their role will be to work with parents and children to maintain family ties in custody through bespoke events. They will also be the point of contact for child safeguarding referrals where required.

Some of the key responsibilities for the role involve the following activities and duties:

  • Design and deliver bespoke sessions aimed at maintaining and developing family ties for prisoners during their time in custody
  • Manage applications from prisoners to attend family\'s first sessions i.e Baby Bonding, Toddler Time, Neurodiversity sessions etc
  • Deliver Story Book Dads programme and complete associated admin tasks
  • Create surveys for CMS collating feedback from prisoners on sessions attended
  • Contribute to Serco publications with articles and reviews of Family\'s First events i.e. Reducing Reoffending Magazine
  • Work in partnership with leads from other areas to ensure the needs of prisoners and specific families are met ie those with neurodivergent conditions that require additional support with accessing visits
  • Make any safeguarding referrals to local authority and liaise with Public Protection Clerks and Security to provide any information regarding those that pose a risk to children - referrals may be received from search or visits staff following any incidents or concerns observed in the hall during a visit
  • Work with key stakeholders to ensure through the gate and resettlement pathways are available for prisoners and their families upon release, making referrals as necessary.
  • Create and update induction materials for prisoners on EDC to advise what sessions and support is available through the Family\'s First team

What you need to do the job:

This is a great opportunity for an individual who has proven experience in resettlement. It is essential that they have a clear understanding about safeguarding and public protection. Additionally, the ideal candidate will have previous experience in children\'s social care, however this is desirable and not an essential requirement.
