The Role



We are seeking an experienced, enthusiastic and forward-thinking manager to drive, progress and lead our work force, and to oversee and manage all operations at Oakes Farm Shop.

Oakes Farm Shop is a family-run business comprising of a 60-seater Cafe, Butchery, Delicatessen, Retail Shop, Bakery and Production.

The ideal candidate must have experience and a strong interest in both retail and hospitality, have a creative eye, be decisive and work with a team to maximise sales, improve margins and maintain a high quality customer experience.

The Farm Shop Manager will manage all aspects of the farm shop operations on a day-to-day basis, assuring compliance to all relevant legislation and company policies, regarding health and safety, food hygiene and staff management.

We are looking for someone who is keen to drive progress and develop within the new role. The role will be across all areas of the business, including front-of-house, back-of-house, and business development therefore presenting an exciting opportunity for someone who is looking for a varied and exciting new role.

The successful person would have strong interpersonal skills to manage and motivate our current team of over 35 employees across 5 departments, whilst also developing and implementing strategies to improve the business to reach long-term targets.

Key Responsibilities



Managing the day-to-day running of the business.



- To manage and motivate the work force, including department managers

- To liaise with all departments to ensure that everyone is working towards the same goals

- To deal with any issues bought to you by department managers, including customers complaints & queries, HR related issues, maintenance issues.

- To have a solid understanding of our EPOS systems, with the ability to make changes on the back-end to create new products/promotions.

- To cash up at the end of each shift, ensuring all tills and card machines balance.

- To open and close the business as a key holder.

- To liaise with suppliers, using negotiation skills to gain the best margins

- To maintain relationships with ongoing and new suppliers, finding ways to improve sales by way of promotions and oversee merchandising.

- Bringing new ideas forward to Senior Management to help grow the business, by way of products, events, displays, marketing, training etc.

- Achieving weekly, monthly and yearly targets set by Senior Management.

- Have a solid understanding of the businesses history and understand the businesses aims and objectives for the next 5 years.

- Possess an excellent knowledge of all our products and service across all departments

- Getting involved in recruitment processes, including interviews and trials

- Dealing with any HR issues and admin, including disciplinaries, training, absences and rotas. Reporting to the HR Manager when necessary.

- Linking departments together through promotions and marketing.

- Maintain a good understanding of competitor businesses and advise, as a part of the senior management, on how we can improve current offering.

- Maintaining open communication with department and senior management.

- Obtaining First Aid, Health & Safety, HACCAP, COSHH and Food Safety certificates. (training provided)

Working Hours



Monday - Sunday
From 43 hours per week
Shifts between 6:30am-5pm.
Shift patterns : 6:30am-3:30pm / 8am-5pm (shifts patterns will vary and working days will vary)
Minimum of 5 weekend days over a 4 week rota.
