Job description
Are you looking for a new challenge or an opportunity to make a real difference to communities across the East Midlands? If so, then this role may be for you. We are seeking to appoint an Asset Management Inspector to collect information on flood and coastal risk management (FCRM) assets in the field and carry out a programme of visual inspections to determine asset condition, identifying issues and liaising with colleagues to correct defects.
Knowing the condition of our assets underpins our risk-based approach to asset management in Derbyshire. Our asset information is used to help us plan our work and target our resources effectively, protecting people and property from flooding. In this role, you'll ensure our assets are safe, effective, resilient and that our future investment requirements are fully understood. You will also spend some time processing asset information in our asset management information system. With support from colleagues, you will manage your own workload and work flexibly according to the demands of the role.
This role will include:
Inspecting FCRM asset condition across the Derbyshire area.
Processing and cleansing asset data with support and guidance
Carrying out public safety risk assessment (PSRA) inspections and liaising with Field Operations to ensure control measures are in place to keep our people and the public safe.
We are looking for motivated, confident and enthusiastic people to join our team and help manage our flood risk assets (such as flood walls, embankments and flood storage areas) to reduce flood risk to people and properties throughout the East Midlands. We are fully committed to having an inclusive workforce to reflect the communities we serve. We welcome flexible working patterns for all our vacancies, including job share, so please clearly include any information regarding your preferred working arrangements on your application.
The team
Asset Management plays a huge part in the work that the Environment Agency does, by reducing the impact of flooding and protecting communities while managing the effects of climate change.
Asset Performance teams are involved in the whole lifecycle of our assets from planning, delivery and maintenance, to responding to incidents and decommissioning. This broad scope of work calls for diverse, multi-skilled teams who are supportive, welcoming and have a focus on learning and development
Experience/skills required
We are looking for enthusiastic, driven, and adaptable people to join our Asset Performance team.
You will be expected to:
Work independently under own initiative and as part of a team to achieve planned outcomes
Manage a varied workload, prioritising your work and highlighting potential issues.
Develop and maintain good relationships with internal and external customers
Use standard IT packages (e.g., MS Office including Excel) efficiently to deliver work
Plan, track, gather and maintain asset data/information
The following are desirable:
Interest in improving the environment for future generations
Asset management maintenance and/or planning
AIMS OM or other asset management information system experience
Full training is provided, and we are looking for transferrable skills that are the right fit for our teams.
Contact and additional information
You will be required to have an incident role and make yourself available to respond to incidents or provide business continuity support during an incident. This may attract an additional payment and full training, and alternative working arrangements will be available to support you with your incident role.
For this role it is important that you are based within Derbyshire as it is essential you can work on sites across our geographic patch. Hybrid home working is an option.
A full UK driving license is required for this role.
