Contract:



These roles are offered on a freelance basis. Successful candidates will be responsible for their own Tax and NI contributions.

1,875 (15 days @ 125 per day)

Aberdeen, with some remote working possible in May



Aberdeen Performing Arts is looking for

two Festival Assistants

to support the delivery of Light the Blue, our multi-artform festival for and by young people.




We are recruiting for the following entry-level roles to support the successful delivery of the festival:

Producing Assistant

providing creative, administrative and live event support to our producing team across the festival fortnight

Marketing Assistant

working with our marketing team on the promotion, documenting and evaluation of Light the Blue across the festival fortnight

About Light the Blue




Light the Blue returns 1 15 June 2025 with a programme of theatre, dance, music, film, visual arts and more taking place across Aberdeen. With over 25 events across 15 days, this years festival invites artists and audiences to step into the unknown with stories being told in new and exciting ways on our stages as well as unusual indoor and outdoor locations. Our programme will see over 1,000 young and professional artists from Aberdeen and across Scotland put their creative stamp on the city.

Responsibilities




The overall responsibility of the Festival Assistants is to support the Aberdeen Performing Arts team across key delivery areas in the immediate lead-up to and during Light the Blue 2025.


Duties may include (but will not be limited to):

Producing Assistant



Assisting with event preparation tasks including compiling documents, scheduling, liaising with relevant departments and ensuring information is up-to-date; Assisting with artist liaison tasks, ensuring participants and performers are looked after when on site; Liaising with and supporting marketing, technical, operations, front of house and other teams in the set-up of key events; Assisting with the practical delivery of events, engaging with artists, audiences, relevant departments and supporting where required; Contributing to planning and briefing meetings; Contributing to the evaluation of the festival.

Marketing Assistant



Assisting with setting up and branding venues Distribution of marketing materials such as print and brochures Working with the Marketing department to support on promotional activities for Light the Blue Assisting the videographers and photographers who are working at the festival where necessary Helping to produce social media content and schedule posts Updating the website and Light the Blue webpage Contributing to planning and briefing meetings Any other marketing task as appropriate Work with the festival team to deliver a successful Light the Blue 2025

Who are we looking for?




This is an early career development opportunity, ideal for individuals looking to gain hands-on experience in the arts and events sector. We are particularly keen to hear from people who are at the beginning of their careers and are passionate about working in a creative, fast-paced festival environment. You must have an interest in performances/events involving young people and/or young audiences, as well as an interest in delivering live events. You must be pursuing a career in the arts industry. You must be confident, adaptable and willing to learn in a practical environment.


You might have some experience in arts management, producing, facilitation or marketing or you might simply be passionate about the arts and keen to develop skills in a new role.


We will work with the successful candidates to identify particular areas of interest and tailor the role to best support them in developing their practice.


There is no travel allowance offered with these roles, therefore we are looking for individuals based in or around Aberdeen.
