About the role:
Would you like to make a real difference in the safety and wellbeing of Merseyside's communities? As an Intelligence Analyst, you'll play a vital role in understanding and interpreting the complex crime challenges facing our region - translating data into clear, actionable insights that shape operational decisions and strategic direction.
You will be at the heart of intelligence-led policing, using analytical techniques to cut through complexity, eliminate bias, and provide objective assessments that drive impactful outcomes.
About the role:
Analysts work at all three NIM levels, from assessing and prioritising tactical local policing area issues to regional/cross border issues in collaboration with national law enforcement agencies, to strategic assessments that help set the force priorities and resourcing.
Your day-to-day will vary depending on your team, but could include:

• Proactive liaison with customers to establish their intelligence requirements, agreeing terms of reference for tasking and managing expectations by prioritising your workload based on threat, harm and risk.
• Work to support local and specialist Investigations teams, including quick time profiling of offenders, analysis of data to provide leads and sequence events for easy comprehension and evidential submission.
• Scanning and assessment of crimes and intelligence across a local area or thematic subject area to prioritise issues for deployment and further action.
• Collaboration with CSD and partners to produce large scale in-depth assessments of thematic areas to identify themes and assist force leads and partners in strategic planning.
• Assessment of Organised Crime Groups and their impact on the communities where they operate, working closely with Plan Managers, local policing teams and specialists to focus disruption activity.
• Working closely with Intelligence Researchers to direct comprehensive information gathering in support of analysis, and provide research products and briefings to guide operational resources.

You'll also be part of a rota providing specialist support to live incidents, including out-of-hours on-call duties.
Working Conditions:
The Analysis portfolio consists of four teams of Analysts, all working within the force flexi-time (Monday - Friday, 07:00 - 19:00hrs) as well as participating in an on-call duty rota (including evening and weekend working) to support the force's 24/7 intelligence capability.
A level of flexibility is expected as Analysts are responsible for fulfilling operational requirements, and may be required to service meetings and operational demand outside of these hours, when required.
Working locations will vary across the force, but mainly based at Merseyside Police Operational Command Centre, Speke, or in a Local Policing Area in Wirral, Sefton, Knowsley, St Helens or Liverpool.
To do this role you should be:

• A critical thinker with the ability to problem solve and make assessments looking beyond the facts to make key judgements and recommendations to assist decision makers.
• Skilled and knowledgeable in the use of intelligence and specialist IT systems
• Able to direct the collection and collation of large amounts of data to provide insight
• Able to effectively present information in a meaningful way to customers.
• A confident communicator, comfortable talking to staff and officers of all levels, including Chief Officers and key partners
• Confident to develop working relationships across force and with partners to assist with time critical and complex problem solving.
• Able to demonstrate professional curiosity, taking ownership for problem solving and be willing to drive processes and implement recommendations.
• Able to work independently and prioritise work based on threat, harm and risk.
• Able to direct Intelligence Researchers in their day to day research and IDOs in development requirements, to ensure the priorities you have established are routinely collected against and the intelligence picture improves.
• Keen to collaborate with other roles in FIB and across the force to ensure the force and local tasking and coordination processes delivers action.
• Willing to undertake assessment to become a certified Intelligence Analyst as part of the Intelligence Professionalisation Programme (IPP).
• Fully conversant with and able to educate others in the National Intelligence Model to drive and implement its processes during the creation and dissemination of intelligence products, and the implementation of intelligence processes.
