The Environment Agency protect and improve the environment.



Climate Change is the biggest risk we face. We are planning for future flood scenarios including a 4 Degrees C rise in global temperature and are working with government, local councils, businesses, civil society groups and communities to make our environment a better place for people and wildlife.



Field Operations protect people and the environment by maintaining and operating our flood and coastal risk management assets and responding to incidents.

This hands-on role involves:

Leading and working together with a team and being outside in all weathers; Coaching and mentoring Team Members and colleagues to increase skills, knowledge and experience; Your team will use a variety of tools and equipment to carry out tasks such as small projects and operation of plant and equipment; Providing response to flood and environmental incidents inside and outside of normal working hours by participating, training and exercising. Deploying sandbags, temporary barriers, mobile pumps and pollution equipment; Carrying out regular checks and inspections of equipment, such as tools, personal protective equipment and vehicles

The team
Our field teams protect people and the environment by maintaining and operating our flood and coastal risk management assets and responding to incidents.




Field teams have a range of technical skills they use to deliver watercourse maintenance, along with asset maintenance and construction projects. The team handle a variety of specialist equipment.



They support the prevention or mitigation of incidents day and night.
Experience/skills required
You should have the necessary practical skills and an understanding in environmental awareness as well as a hands on approach; Some experience in asset operation or maintenance/incident response/use of equipment/tools is an advantage (however full training will be provided); You will be trained and supported to contribute to our response to incidents inside and outside of normal working hours; You should have an understanding of site health and safety requirements; Literacy and numeracy skills are required; Have the ability to carry out tasks and answer queries effectively; Competent in using IT devices, such as an iPad, and willing to learn our in-house systems; Undertake specialist training as and when required; People management skills are desirable. This role includes being on standby and taking part in a duty roster, this standby role attracts additional payments. This is a non-hybrid role based in our South Ferriby Depot Office. You are required to have a full UK driving licence as the role requires you to travel to sites in your day to day work and for incident management.

Our Operational Field Teams are the first to respond during flood incidents to protect people and property, often working under pressure.

In this role may need to calm down challenging situations, for example with distressed members of an affected community.
