Our Field Operations teams protect people and the environment by maintaining and operating our Flood & Coastal Risk Management assets and responding to flooding and environmental incidents on the ground. They are part of our ambition to deliver a world class asset management service.
The Field Operations Management and Maintenance Advisor has a vital role improving the effectiveness of delivery of our circa 5 million river and asset maintenance programme. They assure compliance with policy, and safe ways of working. In this role you will:
Work across local FCRM Operations teams to manage and co-ordinate successful completion of our maintenance programme.
Have oversight of specialist skills and training needed to safely deliver the maintenance programme, operate our assets and for incident response.
Support Field Team Leaders by providing leadership of change and improvements within field teams (e.g. Health Safety & Wellbeing initiatives, ways of working) and by carrying out assurance.
Work with peers and national colleagues ensuring our risk management & safety standards are being maintained and improved.
Assure compliance with statutory obligations, such as Reservoirs Act and CDM Regulations.
Identify opportunities for efficiencies in our outcomes, including alternative delivery options and community engagement.
You will support our response to incidents by having an incident role (either 'incident activated' or part of our standby roster for incident response over a 7-day period - for which you'd receive additional pay).
You will be based at Amwell End (Ware, Hertfordshire) or Hanwell Depot (West London) with the role covering Herts and North London. You will be required to travel to depots, and our office in Welwyn Garden City, as well as out on site.
The team
You will be part of the field team and you will be expected to work across all six field teams in HNL area and liaise with other operational teams.
As our 'frontline', Field teams provide operational response during flood events by operating our critical river and tidal assets 24/7 and responding to flooding incidents. They carry out an annual programme of asset and river maintenance, removal of obstructions from rivers and minor asset repairs.
Experience/skills required
Your energy and enthusiasm, combined with excellent communication and interpersonal skills to build relationships with internal teams and partners, are critical to the success of this role.
Essential Skills:
Full UK Driving Licence
Aptitude for coaching and mentoring colleagues
Managing HSWE on construction/maintenance sites
Delivering projects/programmes in field-based/site-based teams
Organisational skills and ability to work under pressure
Delivering results against performance targets
Experienced user of Microsoft Office (particularly Excel)
Knowledge of/willingness to learn our in-house systems
Qualifications and Licences:
You will either have or we will support you to work towards:-
Institute of Asset Management (IAM) Certificate
Site Manager's Safety Training Scheme (SMSTS)
IOSH Managing Safely/NEBOSH (Construction or General)
X63 CDM Principal Contractor accredited training (internal course)
