OVERVIEW
MSNBC is seeking a highly motivated Field Producer to join its London Bureau. This role is central to MSNBC's international newsgathering operation, providing both editorial leadership and logistical coordination for coverage across the UK, Europe, and beyond.
The Field Producer will monitor international developments, pitch story ideas, and help shape MSNBC's global editorial agenda. This role also involves frequent travel to cover major international news events -- from political summits to natural disasters and breaking news -- supporting correspondents and crews in the field. This role will also work to support the New York Assignment Desk
Key Responsibilities:
Track and monitor international news developments daily to inform editorial priorities.
Monitor breaking news across Europe, the Middle East, Africa (EMEA) and Asia, during U.S. overnight hours.
Coordinate news gathering logistics, including deployment of crews, booking live shots, and securing video and editorial elements for on-air and digital use.
Proactively pitch story ideas and suggest guest and expert contacts to editorial teams in New York and beyond.
Coordinate all elements of field production: securing locations, booking travel, arranging crews, and managing transmission.
Travel to cover major international news events, often on short notice.
Work closely with reporters, camera crews, and editors to ensure smooth execution of live shots, packages, and special reports.
Write scripts, fact-check information, and ensure editorial accuracy under tight deadlines.
Liaise with local fixers, translators, and officials to facilitate reporting in complex environments.
Pitch and escalate urgent developments or noteworthy stories to the New York Desk in real-time.
Maintain close communication with MSNBC producers in the U.S. to support seamless cross-bureau collaboration.
Ensure adherence to journalistic and safety standards in all newsgathering activity.
Deputise for the Director of International News as required.
Monitor regional developments and maintain strong contacts across the UK and internationally in conjunction with the Director of International News.
Will be a hybrid role producer and assignment editor
Qualifications
SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE AND REQUIREMENTS
Basic Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Journalism, International Relations, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
Minimum 5 years of experience in broadcast or digital news, with at least 2 years in field production or international coverage.
Strong editorial judgment and knowledge of international news, particularly in the UK and Europe.
Proven ability to work in high-pressure, fast-paced environments, especially during breaking news.
Experience organizing and executing logistics for remote newsgathering.
Strong writing and scripting skills for broadcast formats.
Familiarity with satellite trucks, portable transmission (e.g., LiveU, Starlink), and ENG field workflows.
Preferred Qualifications:
Foreign language proficiency (especially European or Middle Eastern languages) is a plus.
Previous experience working with U.S.-based media or covering news for an American audience.
Background in high-stakes field reporting (e.g., conflict, disaster, diplomacy, or protests).
Awareness of legal and safety considerations in international newsgathering.
Additional Requirements:
Must have the legal right to work in the UK.
Willingness and ability to travel internationally on short notice, including to high-risk or logistically complex environments.
Availability for flexible hours, including nights and weekends, as news demands.
