We are looking for an experienced Field Service Engineer, to join our team based around the Northeast, ideal locations Newcastle, Durham, Teesside & Hartlepool

The Role of Service Engineer - M&E


To provide a professional repair service to our fleet of liquid biofuel and gas fuelled prime power generation, combined heat and power systems from 5kWe to 2.5MWe and clusters up to 25MWe. All CHP systems operate with heat recovery for either LTHW, MTHW or steam. The role is a national role involving travel and overnight stays as required. With specific equipment sites allocated to engineers by location, You will be required to attend a range of client sites as well as our own to carry out planned preventative maintenance of power generation and combined heat and power units in addition to breakdowns and any unscheduled repairs both Gas and Biofuel, and the associated fuel and LTHW/MTHW systems. Implementation of maintenance activities to manufacturers recommendations, from inspections major services Coordinate correct parts stock and tooling required for a rebuild/repair with Parts Department. Demonstration of competence to carry out in-depth fault diagnosis on engines and alternators, including borescope analysis, temperature assessments, coolant and oil system reviews, alternator output tests and exhaust back pressure and gas analysis duties. Demonstration of competence to carry out regular radiator and intercooler flush and matrix cleaning. Ensure all systems are always safe and adhere to RAMS and ensure dynamic Risk Assessment and Method Statements are completed before any job commences. Completing all service repair and defects via a digital service software utilising a tablet and understand the need to capture clear and concise records. Participate in the on-call rota and attend site as and when required when on call Ensuring the service van is fully stocked clean and ready to respond with a first-time fix. Assist Overhaul engineers within frame and out of frame engine rebuilds. Remove and replace main alternators pumps and heat exchangers. Assist workshop engineering resources as needed. Involvement with apprentice training and coaching of young engineers and interdepartmental colleagues. Share knowledge with the design team for continual improvement for systems to aid maintenance and the uptime of the engine. An understanding of safety and value engineering to reduce any unplanned downtime by system alterations and improvements.




Skills and Qualifications

Demonstrated ability, application and experience of servicing and maintain engines in line with OEM recommendations and industry best practice Meticulous planning, recording of information with and focus on tolerances and root cause approach to engine repair. Ability to communicate at all levels with technical and non-technical colleagues, customers, and suppliers. A recognised apprenticeship with OEM engine manufacturer, Marine, HGV or industrial mechanical maintenance discipline or have had at least 5 years' experience in a similar role within the power generation industry. A valid gas safe qualification like COCN1,CGFE1 & ICPN1 is desirable. Experience of service, fault diagnosis, repair of large gas and diesel engines is essential e.g. with Guascor (Siemens), MAN, CAT, Perkins, Mitsubishi, Cummins, Jenbacher, Wartsila, MTU, Yanmar and Scania Desirable to have the skills and experience to retune the AFR systems on large gas engines Knowledgeable and confident in the safe and correct use of rigging, slinging and jacking equipment Demonstration of these skills will be essential. Ability to use a computer proficiently for emails, report writing in word and inventory management. Must have a full UK Driving licence. Able to obtain an enhanced DBS certificate. A valid gas safe qualification like COCN1, CGFE1 & ICPN1 is desirable. Demonstrable experience of servicing large engines is essential. Ability to map Gas engines is desirable
