The Role



We're looking for a skilled

Mobile Maintenance Engineer

with a strong

electrical background

, who is confident working independently across multiple secure locations in the Bedford area. This is a multi-trade role where electrical work is the core focus, but you'll also support wider maintenance, repair, and refurbishment activities as required.

You'll attend maintenance works and emergency call-outs, working in challenging but rewarding environments such as HM Prisons and other secure facilities. If you're a hands-on engineer with excellent fault-finding skills, a flexible mindset, and a proactive approach, we'd love to hear from you.

Key Responsibilities



Maintenance & Repairs



Carry out electrical maintenance, fault finding, and minor installations (sockets, lighting, wiring, control panels, etc.) Assist with general building repairs and multi-trade tasks (e.g., minor plumbing, carpentry, decorating) Ensure timely and professional resolution of issues and faults

Call-Outs & Mobile Coverage



Attend reactive and emergency call-outs across the region Travel between secure sites using a company-provided vehicle Be available for an on-call rota and maintain a flexible approach to working hours

Compliance & Safety



Work strictly in accordance with prison and site-specific security procedures Complete RAMS and necessary documentation prior to starting works Conduct dynamic risk assessments where required Ensure safe and effective use and maintenance of tools, PPE, and van stock

Communication & Reporting



Liaise effectively with on-site teams, prison estates departments, and head office coordinators Accurately report on job progress, issues, and completed tasks Use job management and digital reporting systems (training provided)

What You'll Need



Essential



Proven electrical maintenance experience (domestic/commercial) Confident working across multiple trades when necessary Experience working in secure or sensitive sites (e.g., prisons, hospitals) Full UK driving licence Strong fault-finding, communication, and organisational skills

Desirable Qualifications



NVQ Level 3 in Electrical Installation or equivalent 18th Edition IEE Wiring Regulations Multi-trade or general building maintenance experience SSSTS, CSCS, or similar safety accreditations First Aid at Work
