Bridge Community Church is a thriving and multicultural church in Leeds, welcoming around 1,200 people each week across three Sunday services and providing 97 hours of opening for community use throughout the week.
The church operates trading subsidiaries that support the wider work of the church through income generating activities, including conferencing activity, parking contracts, and cafe operations.
The Role
We are looking for a Finance Assistant to provide day to day finance administration for our trading subsidiaries. This includes accounts payable and receivable, cashbook processing, ledger maintenance, bank reconciliations, invoicing, and debtor follow up. The role also supports the wider church finance function as required within the postholder's expertise.
Key responsibilities
Process accounts payable, accounts receivable, and cashbook entries using the accounting system
Maintain the general (nominal) ledger
Analyse trading bank transactions and complete monthly bank reconciliations
Support effective financial controls through accurate record keeping and timely processing
Prepare a weekly schedule of supplier payments and ensure creditors are paid in line with agreed terms
Raise sales invoices and follow up outstanding debtors
Manage finance admin queries and support prompt resolution
Manage parking contract administration and monitor payments
Manage cafe income and expenditure
Assist with finance reporting to Directors of the trading subsidiaries
Assist with counting and recording Sunday offerings and ensure funds are banked as required
Support Church Finance staff on finance matters within scope and expertise
Person specification
Essential
AAT, degree, or financial qualification equivalent to NVQ Level 3, or 3 years' experience in financial accounts or bookkeeping
Practical experience of double entry bookkeeping, cashbook maintenance, and bank reconciliations
Experience using a computerised accounting system (for example Sage, QuickBooks, Xero, Opera, or similar)
Good working knowledge of bookkeeping through to trial balance
Competent IT skills including Excel and Word
Highly organised, strong attention to detail, and able to meet deadlines
Able to communicate financial information clearly to non specialists
High standards of confidentiality, integrity, and trustworthiness
Able to work independently within established procedures, with a collaborative team approach
Willingness to work within and support the Christian ethos and values of Bridge Community Church
Desirable
Experience compiling annual budgets and producing management accounts
Experience working in a charity, church, or values based organisation
Experience supporting income streams such as conferencing, parking, or cafe operations
