The Role \xe2\x80\x93 Finance Assistant

We are looking for an ambitious and highly motivated individual to join us as our new Finance Assistant. Reporting to the Head of Finance, you\xe2\x80\x99ll be supporting the whole business in managing daily financial activities. We\xe2\x80\x99re looking for someone who can think creatively, is responsible and thorough, and who aligns with our values. You\xe2\x80\x99ll receive coaching from an all-star finance team, build an understanding of the importance of an embedded and lean finance function, and grow with us on our journey as we scale. This role is a full time position with full study support provided. In this role, you\xe2\x80\x99ll get to:
  • Manage accounts payable to ensure precise and timely handling of supplier invoices and expenses, aligning with financial policies and procedures.
  • Collaborate with our commercial team to ensure we recognise revenue timely and accurately, and work with other teams to improve understanding of drivers of financial performance.
  • Identify opportunities for process improvement within the finance function and implement new systems and tools, such as expense claims, bank reconciliations, payments runs and uses for AI.
  • Maintain the finance inbox, ensuring suppliers and clients receive timely responses to queries.
  • Assist the Senior Management Accountant on month-end and year-end processes including management accounts and statutory audit.
  • Provide support for HMRC filing obligations (e.g. VAT).

Skills and Experience

We firmly believe that no one is the finished article and that there should be learning in every role you do. However, some experience in the following is important for this position:
  • Meticulous attention to detail.
  • Exhibit strong self-management skills in handling workload and tasks.
  • Enthusiasm for taking on new responsibilities and identifying opportunities for improvement.
  • Embrace a collaborative approach and value teamwork.
  • Competent in working with Excel and ideally Google Sheets, and of finance stack software (Xero, Pleo, Dext).
Other skills and experience would be a plus:
  • Studying for a tax or accounting qualification (e.g. ACCA, CIMA, AAT).
  • Experience in a small business as a Finance Assistant, Assistant Accountant, or similar role.
  • Basic understanding of accounting and tax principles (e.g. PAYE, VAT, NIC).
  • Recording receipts and payments, including credit control.
  • Experience of liaising with external stakeholders (i.e. customers and suppliers).
