We are looking for a detail-oriented

Finance Assistant

to support the daily operations within the department.


The position is set to commence

as soon as possible

and will be full-time for an

initial duration of 4 weeks

with a pay rate of

14.98 per hour + holiday pay.

Key Responsibilities:

Respond to straightforward enquiries, providing advice on financial procedures and policies and referring to the Finance officer where necessary Responsible for raising purchase requisitions in the Oracle Financial System and deal with anomalies, escalating complex queries to the most appropriate person Responsible for raising invoices/journals in the Oracle Financial system for income to be collected by a Faculty (e.g. Donations, conference income and recharges between faculties and colleges) Responsible for the processing of payroll, studentship, expense forms and invoice payments and deal with anomalies, escalating complex queries to the most appropriate person. To ensure that all items of agreed expenditure (e.g. Faculty allowance grants, relief of burden payments/buy-outs, lecture payments) are recorded and monitored Responsible for updating, providing and distributing relevant month-end and year-end financial reports for monitoring and checking by the Finance Officer and Faculty Head of Administration and Finance as necessary Recording and reimbursement of petty cash claims, ensuring that these comply with the University payments manual Ensure all financial transactions are carried out in accordance with the University and external financial regulations Maintain good working relationships across the Division and the University's central finance office

Selection Criteria:

Proficiency in using accounting software (e.g., Sage, Oracle, SAP, or similar) and advanced Microsoft Excel skills (e.g., VLOOKUP, pivot tables, data analysis). A good standard of education to A level standard or equivalent Previous experience in an office environment Experience of financial processes/administration Excellent IT skills, in particular in the use of spreadsheets A methodical, systematic approach and excellent attention to detail Strong organisational skills with demonstrable experience of prioritising a varied workload and meeting deadlines using own initiative and with minimal supervision Ability to remain calm and patient when under pressure or dealing with difficult individuals Good communication skills with a friendly, proactive and helpful approach
