We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Finance Assistant to join the team at Citizens Advice Stevenage. This permanent, part-time role (22.5 hours per week / 0.6 FTE) offers flexibility to work across three or five days, with the option to work from home following a successful probation period.
The successful candidate will support the Head of Finance & Business Support in ensuring accurate and efficient financial operations, including processing invoices and payments, reconciling accounts, and assisting with month-end and year-end reporting. This role is ideal for an organised and proactive individual with strong attention to detail and a solid understanding of accounting principles.
Salary:
18,000 per annum (0.6 pro-rata), dependent on qualifications and experience
Responsibilities
Raise and process debtor invoices accurately and on time
Process supplier invoices, payments, and staff expense claims in line with financial procedures
Prepare and manage BACS payments, ensuring compliance with internal financial controls
Reconcile bank statements and ledger accounts monthly
Reconcile all income sources and maintain supporting documentation
Maintain schedules and reconcile deferred income, accruals, prepayments, and payroll
Support month-end and year-end closing processes and assist in preparing management accounts
Prepare and file financial returns to National Citizens Advice accurately and on schedule
Maintain organised and up-to-date financial records and filing systems
Respond to financial queries from staff, suppliers, and external stakeholders promptly and professionally
Collaborate with the Head of Finance to ensure compliance with accounting principles and organisational policies
Contribute to continuous improvement of financial systems and processes
Experience
Formal accountancy qualification (e.g. AAT) - essential* Previous experience in a finance or accounts role - essential* Proficiency in Microsoft Office, especially Excel - essential* Familiarity with accounting software - essential* Strong understanding of accounting principles and financial procedures
Excellent attention to detail, accuracy, and organisational skills
