Job description
Role Overview
The Finance Business Partner will report directly to Principal Project Accountant. In this role, you will be responsible for:
Key Responsibilities:
Lead in providing consistent, professional business partnering support to programme and project teams.
Challenge and support Senior Responsible Owners (SROs) and budget holders to ensure forecasts are robust and achievable.
Provide insightful analysis to Heads of Teams, Directors, and the Executive Leadership Team on business performance, change portfolio, and operational planning activities.
Significantly contribute to the development of credible future year forecasts and budgets.
Collaborate with the Financial Control and Policy Team to maintain financial safety and ensure adherence to financial controls.
Conduct financial modelling, variance analysis, and budget reconciliation, including ad hoc analysis as needed.
Promote a culture of continuous improvement and innovation in financial processes and operations.
Undertake additional tasks as required within the Finance Business Partnering team.

Person specification
You will need to demonstrate the following skills and experience.
Essential
CCAB or CIMA qualification, or equivalent experience in a similar role.
Proven experience in finance business partnering and project accounting within a large, complex organisation.
Strong emotional intelligence with the ability to influence and persuade at senior levels.
Expertise in developing robust budgets and forecasts for programme and project lifecycles, including business cases.
In-depth knowledge of IAS 38 - Intangible Assets Under Construction.
Self-motivated with excellent attention to detail in cost allocation, capitalisation, and compliance.
Strong leadership and interpersonal skills with a confident approach.
Excellent communication, networking, and negotiating skills.
Desirable
Experience in the development of business cases in line with HM Treasury Green Book framework.
Experienced user of Power BI.

Flexible Working
At MaPS, we take pride in our flexible approach to work. As standard, we work on a hybrid basis with a minimum of 2 days in the office per week. Hybrid working is a voluntary, non-contractual arrangement and our headquarters in Bedford will be your contractual place of work. The number of days that anyone will be able to work at home will be determined primarily by business needs, but personal and other relevant circumstances will also be considered. If you are successful, any opportunities for hybrid working, including whether a hybrid working arrangement is suitable for you, will be discussed with you prior to you taking up your post.
